Significant Weather Advisory for Eastern Etowah and Cherokee Counties

SIGNIFICANT WEATHER ADVISORY FOR EASTERN ETOWAH AND CHEROKEE COUNTIES UNTIL 915 AM CDT

At 827 AM CDT, Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along a line extending from near Crossville to near Tabor Road to near Rainbow City. Movement was northeast at 50 mph. Pea size hail and wind gusts up to 50 mph will be possible with these storms. These storms have a history of causing tree damage in eastern Blount and west-central Etowah Counties.

Locations impacted include Gadsden, Rainbow City, Hokes Bluff, Centre, Cedar Bluff, Little River Canyon National Preserve, Forney, Centre Municipal Airport, Glencoe, Leesburg, Sand Rock, Gaylesville, Tennala, Tabor Road, Cherokee Rock Village, Cornwall Furnace Park, Blanche, Ballplay, Slackland and Weiss Lake.

 PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS

Torrential rainfall is also occurring with these storms, and may lead to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways. Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with these storms. Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle.
