Single-Vehicle Accident on Highway 35 Near Blanche / UPDATED

The Broomtown Fire Department, Cherokee County Rescue Squad and Cherokee EMS were all dispatched to the scene of a single-vehicle accident occurring just before 4:30 Thursday morning on Highway 35 near Blanche.

Reports indicated that the driver was traveling up the mountain from Blanche, headed toward Ft Payne, when the vehicle went off the side of the road.

Early indications are that the driver – who apparently was the sole occupant of the vehicle – was lying beside the 1998 Toyota when emergency crews arrived on the scene – and he was possibly suffering a broken leg.

According to the Alabama State Trooper accident report 63 year old James Gilbreath of Ft Payne was transported to DeKalb Medical Center for treatment and was then transferred to Erlanger.

No additional information regarding the extent of his injuries was listed on the report.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
