Son Shot Following Report of Domestic Dispute with Father in DeKalb County

At approximately 9:30 Tuesday night the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a domestic dispute involving father and son, with shots fired at a residence on County Road 739 in Henagar.

When Investigators, Deputies, Ider Police and Alabama State Troopers arrived on the scene, they found a 24 year old male that appeared to have a gunshot wound to the head.

He was then transported by DeKalb Ambulance Service to Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga where he underwent surgery, and according to Sheriff Jimmy Harris, his condition remains unknown at this time.

Jacksonville State Forensics Science Investigator Mark Hopwood was called to help process the scene.

The father, 53 year old Scott Slaton, was arrested for Obstructing Governmental Operations and Resisting Arrest.

Sheriff Harris says “This is an unfortunate incident that occurred and our thoughts and prayers are with the victim and his family. This is still an ongoing investigation and as we continue to compile information and evidence it will be possible that more charges will be added, if not we will send this case to Grand Jury for further review.”
