Firefighters were dispatched to the home of a Cherokee County E-911 Dispatcher early Saturday morning as she called 9-1-1 reporting a storage building next to her home was on fire just before 7:00.
Engines from Cedar Bluff, Gaylesville and Centre Fire Departments responded to the scene off of Highway 9 North in Cedar Bluff to find the structure heavily engulfed in flames – a large cloud of smoke could been seen from as far out as the causeway.
Cedar Bluff Fire Chief Matthew Sprayberry told WEIS Radio News following an investigation the fire was apparently started as the result of a wood heater that had been left burning overnight.
Fortunately, no one was injured during the blaze – the homeowner, Susan Duke who works as a Cherokee County 911 Dispatcher – told WEIS Radio News that she wanted to thank all the firefighters for their quick response and hard work during the fire.
