Several area athletes were honored by the ASWA for their efforts during week nine of the Alabama high school football season. Offensively, CedarBluff’s D.J. Chapman, D’Shawn Fife and Delontae Williams made the select list along with Cole Murphy of Gaylesville, Will Ivey of Spring Garden, Cherokee County’s Ty Green and Piedmont’s Darnell Jackson.
On special teams and defense Zane Farrar of Sand Rock, Cherokee County’s Kenyan Dupree and Devante Dixon of Cedar Bluff were honored.

Clarke County definitely hopped on the Pope Express on Friday night.
Running back Jarrette Pope logged 22 carries for 410 yards and six touchdowns to lead Clarke Prep to a 72-41 victory over Morgan Academy. For his performance – which didn’t take into account his five tackles on defense – Pope is this week’s ASWA Offensive Player of the Week.
Pope edged Lynn quarterback Brody Meeks and Pinson Valley running back Nick Gibson in this week’s balloting.
Meeks finished with 342 yards of total offense in a 49-48 loss to Hubbertville. He completed 18-of-32 passes for 268 yards and five TDs (65, 33, 22, 12 and 10 yards), rushed seven times for 74 yards and a touchdown, completed four 2-point conversion passes, and added a 2-point conversion run.
Gibson logged 38 carries and ran for 368 yards and had touchdown runs of 4, 15, 23, 78, 5 and 29 yards in a 53-34, come-from-behind victory over Moody.
This week’s ASWA Defense/Special Teams Player of the Week is Waterloo’s Bradley Darby, who did a little bit of everything in a 34-0 victory over Vina. Darby recovered two fumbles and an onside kick and recorded 10 tackles and a sack as Waterloo earned its first victory over the season. On offense, has rushed for 168 yards and two touchdowns.
The two finalists for the Defense/Special Teams award are Corner’s Hunter Doppler and Oneonta’s Rashad Roberson.
Doppler finished with 20 tackles and an interception in the Yellow Jackets’ 36-23 loss to Bibb County. Roberson returned a punt 50 yards for a TD, returned another punt 43 yards for a touchdown, broke up two passes and had four tackles in a 62-14 victory over Sardis.
ASWA members from Andalusia, Anniston, Auburn, Birmingham, Boaz, Centre, Cullman, Demopolis, Dothan, Florence, Fort Payne, Gadsden, Gardendale, Grove Hill, Huntsville, Jasper, Mobile, Montgomery, Oneonta and Tuscaloosa contributed nominations this week.

Robert Adams, Trinity: Caught four passes for 130 yards and three touchdowns in a 42-6 win over Central-Coosa. TDs, all in the first half, covered 53, 50 and 18 yards.
Jakoby Aldridge, Sweet Water: Ran 24 times for 217 yards and three touchdowns (5, 78, 29) in win over Mobile Christian before exiting the game with 5:40 left in the third quarter.
De’mon Anderson, Carroll: Rushed for 247 yards and three touchdowns, including a game-winning 1-yard run with 21 seconds to go, in a 28-21 win over Rehobeth.
Michael Barron, Moody: Threw four touchdown passes and ran for another score in a 53-34 loss to Pinson.
DeMarcus Bingham, Foley: Caught nine passes for 116 yards and two touchdowns in A 20-17 loss at Foley.
Khari Blasingame, Buckhorn: Ran for 256 yards on 29 carries and scored three touchdowns (8, 3,3) in a 28-27 loss to Hazel Green.
Jacob Bolin, Geraldine: Rushed four times for 103 yards and touchdowns of 85 and 12 yards in a 40-14 win over Pisgah. He also caught a 45-yard TD pass.
Marlon Bridges, Lanett: Ran for 222 yards and three scores on nine carries in Lanett’s 50-7 win over Horseshoe Bend to finish the regular season undefeated.
Jermarcus Brown, Pickens County: Rushed for 234 yards on 12 carries and scored five touchdowns in a 34-8 win over Berry. His touchdown runs covered 29, 25, 32, 7 and 92 yards.
Logan Campbell, Cold Springs: Rushed 33 times for 190 yards and a pair of touchdowns in a 42-38 loss to Oakman. He also completed both of his passes for 30 yards, made eight tackles and picked off a pass.
D.J. Chapman, Cedar Bluff: Caught two passes for 110 yards and two scores in a 62-13 win over Spring Garden.
Austin Childers, Red Bay: Rushed for a career-high 332 yards and five touchdowns as Red Bay held off Colbert Heights 38-20. Childers scored on runs of 13, 16, 58, 39 and 33 yards and also had a 2-point conversion run.
Tray Collins, Beauregard: Rushed for 195 yards and three touchdowns on nine carries in Beauregard’s 35-21 win over No. 7 Tallassee.
Dvonte Crandle, Alma Bryant: Rushed for 154 yards and two touchdowns on 22 carries as the Hurricanes beat Davidson 34-23 and made it into the playoffs.
Austin Crumbley, Good Hope: Caught five passes for 120 yards and two touchdowns in a Class 3A, Region 7 clash at Winfield.
Jonathan Cuzzort, Valley Head: Ran 14 times for 168 yards and two touchdowns (9, 4) and caught a 15-yard touchdown pass in a 41-13 win over Collinsville.
Ahmad DeRamus, Gadsden City: Rushed for 170 yards on 17 carries, scored a touchdown on the ground and completed 18 of 23 passes for 124 yards with two more scores to lead the Titans to a 42-41 overtime win against Huntsville.
Blake Devine, Southside-Gadsden: Scored four touchdowns — runs of 20, 45 and 40 and a punt return for 72 yards — as the Panthers routed Brewer 42-0.
Kendrick Doss, Florence: Accounted for five first-half touchdowns in Florence’s 69-43 win over Sparkman. Doss threw touchdown passes of 19, 12, 43 and 40 yards and also scored on an 8-yard run as the Falcons led 62-0 at the half. He threw for 161 yards and ran for 34.
Caleb Ellison, Cold Springs: Carried 24 times for 136 yards and three touchdowns in the Eagles’ 42-38 loss to No. 8 Oakman.
Bryant Farley, West Point: Compiled 245 rushing yards and two touchdowns — a 38-yarder to open the third quarter and a 50-yarder for the game-winner — in a 16-14 road victory over East Limestone.
Sebastion Fendley, Good Hope: Completed 15 of 28 passes for 288 yards and three touchdowns in the Raiders’ 45-22 road loss to Winfield.
D’Shawn Fife, Cedar Bluff: Tallied 153 yards on 11 carries and scored two touchdowns (26, 50 yards) in a 62-13 win over Spring Garden.
DeSherrius Flowers, Vigor: Rushed for 251 yards and four touchdowns on 19 carries in a 51-27 win over Faith Academy. Flowers scored on runs of 12, 37, 3 and 20 yards.
Eric Graham, Autauga Academy: Had 293 yards and five touchdowns on 30 carries in a 48-30 win over Lakeside.
Samuel Grisham, Lauderdale County: Accounted for five touchdowns — three rushing, two passing — in a 47-7 win over Elkmont. Grisham scored on runs of 10, 25 and 45 yards, threw TD passes of 5 and 34 yards and returned a kickoff 60 yards to set up another touchdown.
T.J. Green, Geneva County: Rushed for 260 yards and three touchdowns, including a 95-yard run, in a 28-14 win over Kinston. Green added scoring runs of 44 and 3 yards.
Ty Green, Cherokee County: Rushed for 152 yards with a touchdown in the Warriors’ 28-7 win at Hokes Bluff.
Dylan Hand, Corner: Caught 10 passes for 142 yards with a 5-yard touchdown in the 36-21 loss to Bibb County.
Austin Harris, Fairview: Rushed for 225 yards on 25 carries, including 180 and all four of his touchdowns in the second half, to lead the Aggies’ to a playoff-clinching 32-28 road win over Crossville. His scores covered 19, 1, 7 and 1 yards, the last putting Fairview up for good with 9:55 to go.
Brontae Harris, Hanceville: Ran for 219 yards and three touchdowns, including a 52-yarder, and returned an interception 53 yards for another score in a 54-13 road rout of Cordova, to clinch their second region title in three seasons.
Nathan Harris, Gulf Shores: Rushed for 171 yards and four touchdowns on 23 carries as the Dolphins beat B.C. Rain 49-21 and clinched a playoff berth for the first time since 2009.
Cody Henderson, Winston County: Had 108 receiving yards, 52 rushing yards and three touchdowns in a 42-8 victory over Vinemont.
Jamarius Henderson, Dale County: Accounted for six TDs in a 57-38 win over Geneva. He finished with 217 yards rushing on 18 carries with five touchdowns and added 110 yards on two kick returns with one going for an 81-yard touchdown. On defense, had 11 tackles and a sack.
Brandon Hester, Oak Grove: Ran for 174 yards on 25 carries with a 10-yard score in the 16-13 win over West Blocton.
Brewer Hicklen, Huntsville: Rushed for 178 yards and three touchdowns (2, 61, 1) on 20 carries, and passed for two more scores (10, 26) as the Panthers rallied from a 21-point deficit in the second half before falling 42-41 in overtime to Gadsden City.
Kyle Hornbuckle, Locust Fork: Completed 10 of 16 passes for 137 yards and rushed for 134 yards and a touchdown on 15 attempts in the Hornets’ 31-24 loss to St. Clair County. He also had a 33-yard field goal and it was his 67-yard run with 3:24 to play that tied the game at 24-all.
Dezmond Howard, Hooper: Ran for 264 yards and four touchdowns on 25 carries in a 52-34 win over Glenwood. He also had 13 tackles and a sack.
Hayden Huckabee, Marengo Academy: Gained 100 yards and two TDs on four carries, threw a touchdown pass and scored on a 64-yard punt return in a 47-7 win over Sumter Academy.
Jack Hutcheson, Hoover: Completed 14 of 17 attempts for 220 yards and three touchdowns (4, 48 and 12 yards) in the 41-0 win over Tuscaloosa County.
Will Ivey, Spring Garden: Rushed for 157 yards on 22 carries and scored a 56-yard touchdown run in a 62-13 loss at Cedar Bluff.
Darnell Jackson, Piedmont: Rushed for 146 yards on nine carries and scored three touchdowns (11, 13 25 yards), all in the first half, of a 56-12 win at Weaver.
Victor Jerald, Briarwood Christian: Rushed for 177 yards on 15 carries with two touchdowns in the 26-6 win over John Carroll.
Kerryon Johnson, Madison Academy: Ran 14 times for 180 yards, including scoring runs of 64, 25 and eight yards, in a 41-14 win over Colbert County. Johnson also had an interception.
Andy Jones, Houston Academy: Accounted for 302 yards and five touchdowns in a 41-27 win over Providence Christian. He completed 8-of-11 passes for 179 yards and three touchdowns and rushed for 123 yards and two scores.
Marcus Key, Bessemer City: Accounted for 395 yards offense in the 34-10 win over Northridge. Key passed for 228 yards and two touchdowns, and ran for 167 yards with two scores (11 and 14 yards).
Rollin Kinsaul, Straughn: Accounted for five TDs in a 49-21 victory over Opp. He had rushing TDs from 1, 12 and 3 yards and threw for TDs from 12 and 32 yards.’
Dave Kirksey, Fairhope: Had 195 all-purpose yards, including 123 on the ground and three touchdowns, in a 49-22 win over Northview.
Josh Lewis, Pickens Academy: Rushed for 288 yards and three touchdowns in a 50-31 loss to Patrician Academy.
Hayden Maples, Fairview: Completed 19 of 25 passes for 254 yards and a touchdown in the Aggies’ latest thrilling victory.
Jake Maddox, Geraldine: Completed 7-of-8 passes for 167 yards and three touchdowns in a 40-14 win over Pisgah. Maddox’s TD passes covered 27, 60 and 45 yards.
Xavier McCollum, Winfield: Rushed for 136 yards and two touchdowns and made seven tackles, including three for loss, in a 45-22 win over Good Hope.
Colby McNeal, Ashford Academy: Threw for 258 yards and a touchdown on 11-of-17 passing on offense and also made 12 tackles on defense in a 23-18 loss to Eastwood Christian.
Ostin McPherson, St. Paul’s: Rushed for 163 yards and four touchdowns on 30 carries in a a 42-14 win over LeFlore.
Ben Mills, Coosa Christian: Ran for 203 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Conquerors past Woodville 39-24.
Devon Mines, Pelham: Ran 19 times for 171 yards and two touchdowns (69 and 46 yards) in a 27-24 victory over Spain Park.
Keith Mixon, Shades Valley: Scored four touchdowns in the 42-14 win over Woodlawn. Mixon ran 15 times for 160 yards and two scores, and caught two passes, both for touchdowns.
Frank Moody, St. James: Had 27 carries for 230 yards and two touchdowns in a 29-26 win over Alabama Christian.
Cole Murphy, Gaylesville: Rushed for 214 yards on 10 carries and scored a pair of touchdowns in a 49-40 loss to Donoho. He also completed both his pass attempts for 47 yards, including a 32-yard touchdown to Gage Davis, and posted nine tackles on defense.
Kyle Nalls, Fayette County: Rushed for 169 yards on 12 carries and scored three touchdowns in a 48-7 win over Northside.
Thomas Ozmint, Glencoe: Ran for 216 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Yellow Jackets to a 44-14 win over Ashville and secure a spot in the Class 3A playoffs.
Jacob Parker, Westminster Christian: Ran for 182 yards and three touchdowns (4, 1, 39) on 28 carries in a 38-20 win over West Morgan. He also caught two passes for 21 yards and completed two passes for 39 yards.
Dalton Parks, DAR: Ran for 128 yards and three touchdowns on 17 rushes in a 48-32 win over Ardmore.
Luke Phillips, St. Luke’s: Completed 9 of 10 passes for 110 yards and four TDs and also scored on a 50-yard run as the Wildcats rolled over J.U. Blacksher 49-24.
Tripp Puckett, Bayside Academy: Rushed for 141 yards and two touchdowns on 12 carries as the Admirals beat Southside-Selma 39-6.
T.J. Reed, Daphne: Rushed for 171 yards and four touchdowns on 20 carries in a 42-31 victory at Enterprise.
Drex Roach, Abbeville Christian: Threw four TD passes and ran for another in the Generals’ 60-20 win over Lyman Ward. The TD passes covered 17, 42, 5 and 18 yards and his TD run was 10 yards. Playing in just one half, he completed 9-of-17 for 198 yards and rushed for 50 yards on three carries.
Harry Satterwhite, McGill-Toolen: Completed 16 of 18 passes, including 11 straight to open the game, for 208 yards and four first-half touchdowns in the Yellow Jackets’ 52-18 win over rival Murphy. Satterwhite threw TD passes to Ito Smith (39) and Chris Knowles (5) and a pair to Wil Young (13, 9).
Patrick Shanahan, Pope John Paul II: Caught touchdown passes of 19, 25 and 25 yards — finishing with seven catches for 125 yards — in an 18-13 victory over North Jackson.
Denzel Smith, Robertsdale: Rushed for 136 yards and two touchdowns on 33 carries as the Golden Bears snapped a five-game losing streak with a 34-28 win over Baldwin County.
Chris Sparkman, Austin: Completed 13 of 25 passes for 170 yards and two touchdowns (26, 44), and ran 15 times for 83 yards and a 10-yard score as the Black Bears shocked No. 2-ranked Bob Jones 28-22.
Santiago Taylor, Aliceville: Completed 8 of 9 passes for 177 yards and two touchdowns in a 56-0 win over Francis Marion.
Josh Thomas, Montgomery Academy: Ran 18 times for 295 yards and four touchdowns in a 41-20 win at Isabella.
Racean Thomas, Oxford: Rushed for 237 yards on 28 carries and four touchdowns in a 41-20 win over Pell City.
Dee Tolbert, Thompson: Totaled 304 all-purpose yards and three touchdowns in a 36-22 loss to Oak Mountain. Tolbert ran 20 times for 144 yards and two touchdowns (1 and 22 yards), grabbed seven passes for 116 yards with a 73-yard score, adding two kick returns for 41 yards.
Shakeith Tyes, Calera: Totaled 290 all-purpose yards and three touchdowns in the 52-14 win over Jemison. Tyes ran 19 times for 138 yards with two TDs (10 and 26 yards) and added a 49-yard reception and 103 return yards, including an 87-yard kickoff return for a score.
Jase Trotter, Oakman: Accumulated 388 yards of total offense, connecting on 17 of 21 passes for 286 yards and two touchdowns anad rushing for 102 yards and four more scores on 15 carries in a 42-38 thriller over Cold Springs. His sixth and final touchdown was the game-winner with 21 seconds to go.
Jalen Tuggle, Mary Montgomery: Rushed for 132 yards and a 4-yard touchdown on 37 carries as the Vikings won their first game of the season, 13-9 over Theodore.
Demetrice Vaughan, Blount: Rushed 29 times for 199 yards and four touchdowns as the Leopards clinched the Class 6A, Region 1 title with a 31-20 victory over Baker.
Kolby Wall, Sylvania: Carried 42 times for 218 yards and a touchdown in a 27-12 win over Brindlee Mountain.
Zion Webb, Central-Phenix City: Accrued 182 total yards and two total scores in Central’s 26-15 win over No. 9 Smiths Station. He ran for 84 yards, including a 50-yard touchdown, and threw for 98 yards and a touchdown.
Brody White, Crossville: Completed 18 of 26 passes for 242 yards and four touchdowns (17, 13, 58, 23) in a 32-28 loss to Fairview.
Ethan Widner, Fairview: Caught 11 passes for 118 yard in a 32-28 victory over Fairview.
Delontae Williams, Cedar Bluff: Rushed for 175 yards on 10 carries and scored two touchdowns (56, 41 yards), all in the second half of a 62-13 win over Spring Garden.
Khiran Williams, Dothan: Had 173 yards rushing on 17 carries and threw for 104 more off 10-of-18 passing, helping Dothan stay alive for the playoffs with a 20-17 win over Foley.
Justin Woolfolk, Montgomery Academy: Ran 19 times for 245 yards and two scores in a 41-20 win at Isabella.
Taj Bates, Deshler: Returned to interceptions for scores in the first half of a 61-6 win over Clements.
Wanya Blackmon, Center Point: Led the defense with seven tackles, a forced fumble, a sack and a recovered fumble in the 22-14 win over Mortimer Jordan.
Josh Crawford, Edgewood: Returned an onsides kick 48 yards for a touchdown in a 52-36 win over Fort Dale Academy. Also ran 24 times for 174 yards and five touchdowns.
Jackson Dennis, Houston Academy: Made eight tackles, including one on a fourth-down stop inside the 6, and had a fumble recovery on defense in the Raiders’ 41-27 win. He also caught three passes for 91 yards and two TDs.
Devante Dixon, Cedar Bluff: Scored on a 62-yard kickoff return and caught a 20-yard touchdown pass in a 62-13 win over Spring Garden.
Justin Dunnam, Saraland: Intercepted a pair of passes – part of four turnovers forced by the Spartans – in a 45-17 win over Citronelle.
Kenyan Dupree, Cherokee County: Intercepted two passes and blocked a punt in the Warriors’ 28-7 win at Hokes Bluff.
Zane Farrar, Sand Rock: Intercepted a pass and caught a 65-yard touchdown pass in a 35-7 victory at Ider.
Holden Fields, South Lamar: Returned an interception for a TD and added a rushing touchdown in a 48-0 win over Parrish.
Lorenzo Fields, Daphne: Returned a fumble 34 yards for the go-ahead touchdown with less than two minutes remaining as the Trojans won at Enterprise, 42-31.
Brandon Gurley, Madison County: Scored touchdowns on a 70-yard interception return and a 69-yard punt return in a 49-6 win over Butler.
G.Q. Hardwick, Etowah: Picked up a fumble and returned it 30 yards for a touchdown and added an interception in a 31-3 win over Boaz.
Demetrius Kemp, Demopolis: Recorded nine tackles, a blocked punt, a forced fumble and an interception in 22-21 loss to Jackson.
Christian Mays, St. Jude: Returned an interception 95 yards for a touchdown and had a 40-yard TD run in a 36-26 victory at Fayetteville.
Talbert Pate, South Lamar: Returned an interception for a TD and added a rushing touchdown in a 48-0 win over Parrish.
Dant’e Reese, Hanceville: Returned an interception 54 yards a TD and caught a 31-yard touchdown pass from Caleb Hurst and in the Bulldogs’ seventh straight victory and eighth overall.
Kaleb Sessions, Monroe Academy: Returned a kickoff 81 yards for a TD and rushed for two touchdowns and score as AISA No. 3 Monroe Academy ripped Pike Liberal 55-7.
Stephen Stewart, Demopolis: Averaged 44.2 yards per kick in five punts for the Tigers while hemming Jackson inside their own 20 three times and unleashing two long punts (52, 57),with the 57-yarder out of his own end zone.
Trent Thrash, Fyffe: Blocked a punt and recovered it for a touchdown, and set up another score with a 66-yard kickoff return in a 47-27 win over Section. He made four tackles (three solo). He added 12 carries for 61 yards, including a 4-yard TD.
Ethan Williams, Midfield: Posted 10 tackles with a sack and a forced fumble in a win over Tarrant.
Lucas Wooten, Sylvania: Intercepted two passes in the final two minutes as the Rams downed Brindlee Mountain 27-12. Wooten returned one 65 yards for a touchdown. He also made 15 tackles, including seven solo.
Darian Yancey, Auburn: Returned an interception for a touchdown and recorded two tackles for losses in the Tigers’ region-clinching 21-14 win over Opelika.
