Georgia Trio Arrested Following Cherokee County Fires Monday Night

PolkAccording to Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver, three Cedartown, Georgia residents have been arrested for causing a fire which destroyed several vehicles Monday night.

Firefighters with the Spring Creek, McCord’s and Centre Departments responded to reports of a structure fire at around 7:30pm. Upon their arrival firefighters found several vehicles and a box-style van on fire, in addition to several acres of woods.

Cherokee County Fire Investigator Shawn Rogers arrived on the scene, and quickly learned from the property owners that they have had continual problems with people coming onto their property without permission.

Deputies responding to the scene encountered three people walking along 411 North away from the area.

The three suspects were identified as 21 year old Adam Keith McGee – 21 year old Brittany Elaine Crawford – and 18 year old Joseph Travis Lindsey.

All three were detained and after the scene was processed all three were interviewed – and it was determined that they had come onto the property in order to steal scrap metal – and while doing so, their vehicle became stuck in the mud. As they tried to move the vehicle the grass caught on fire due to the heat coming from the exhaust; the blaze quickly spread with the suspects’ vehicle – which belonged to the mother of one of the three, and several others belonging to the property owner, being destroyed.

McGee, Crawford and Lindsey were all charged with Criminal Mischief 1st Degree, Criminal Trespass 2nd Degree – and Willfully, Maliciously or Intentionally Setting a Grass or Woods Fire.

All three remain in the Cherokee County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.
