Tiger Woods to Return for 2017 Season Opener

Allen Kee/ESPN(NEW YORK) — Tiger Woods will return to competitive golf next week. The PGA Tour announced Friday Woods will play at the Safeway Open in Napa, California, the Tour’s season-opening event, which begins next Thursday.

Woods hasn’t played competitive golf since August 2015. He’s been recovering from two back injuries he had last fall.

It will mark his first appearance playing on the Tour in 417 days.

Woods’ world ranking has been in steep decline in recent years. He was number one in the world for a record 683 weeks, according to an ESPN report. He now ranks 767th.
