Town Of Leesburg Approves Fiscal Year 2015 Budget With A Surplus

The Leesburg Town Council unanimously voted to pass their Fiscal Year 2015 Budget as presented by Town Clerk Jennifer Mackey – Mayor Ed Mackey said that it had been a good year financially for the town.

Mayor Mackey went onto say that the Town ended up with a Surplus of over $170,000.

The Town has also voted to update the downtown Surveillance System at a total cost of $7,200 – the town agreed to enter into a contract with Jason O’Neal who owns Surveillance Concepts in Cedar Bluff to perform the work.

In other business the town has also hired an additional Part-Time Police Officer; Investigator Joe Johnson who is also employed by the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Department will work a split weekend shift with Officer Jimmy DeBerry.

The Council has agreed to purchase a total of six new sets of turnout gears for the Leesburg Fire Department.

Citing the reason of a lack of public show, council members have agreed to move the council meetings from the community building back to town hall.

Toward the end of the meeting Town Clerk Jennifer Mackey announced that the annual Trunk or Treat event will take place October 30th at 5:00 at the Leesburg Park Pavilion and will feature Inflatable’s for kids, hotdogs and live entertainment which has yet to be announced.
