Town of Leesburg Now Accepting Applications for Chief of Police Post

Leesburg PD 1During a Special Called Meeting of the Leesburg Town Council this week, election results in the Municipal Run Off Election for the position of Mayor of Leesburg were canvassed which listed incumbent Brandy Pierce receiving 144 votes plus 10 absentee votes for 154 in total; while Jack Harley Lamey received 99 votes, plus 2 absentee votes and 2 provisional votes in the race for a total vote count of 103.

Those vote counts were accepted as presented.

Meanwhile, in other business, the council agreed to hire Hennae McGinnis for the upcoming Montgomery Police Academy – because the last Academy was already full, at the time of her application.  The official hire date is October 17th (2016).

The as yet unresolved issue of the sewer contract is currently being negotiated by the Town of Leesburg’s lawyer and the contractor’s bonding company; negotiations are ongoing in an attempt to settle the issue without having to go to court.

Due to the recent retirement of long-time Leesburg Police Chief Lanny Ransum, the Council must appoint an Acting Chief, and they agreed to post the position of Chief; they’ll be taking applications through October 31st (2016); the applicant must be certified, and have at least five years experience.

Anyone interested in the position should contact Leesburg Town Hall at (256) 526-8890.
