James Douglas BusseyThe trial of a man charged with shooting and killing his wife more than 20 years ago has been re-scheduled

According to the Anniston Star, on Friday morning (August 1st), Calhoun County Circuit Judge Brian Howell ruled that the trial – which was set to begin August 4th – would instead be moved to November 3rd.

50 year old James Douglas Bussey of Leesburg was indicted by a grand jury in May of 2011 on a charge of Murder in connection with the death of his wife, Diana Bussey.

Diana BusseyDiana Bussey, age 21 at the time of her death – worked as a convenience store clerk at the Exxon Discount Food Mart in Bynum; her body was found by a customer just after midnight, June 26th of 1993.

She had been shot in the head.

In an interview following the shooting Bussey told a reporter that he had been at the store on the night of the murder, helping his wife close-up.

The attorney for James Douglas Bussey, Richard Fricks, asked the court Friday to withdraw him from the case because Bussey was behind on payments to him, and he added that Bussey wasn’t “fully and properly cooperating.”

The judge agreed to allow Bussey to hire another attorney and moved the trial back to November to give the new attorney ample time to prepare.
