Trump Leaves Press Behind to Dine with Family in New York

ABC News(NEW YORK) — It’s just a week after Election Day, but Donald Trump is already leaving the press out some activities.

The president-elect Tuesday night went out sans media to have a steak dinner with his family at New York’s famed 21 Club.

Trump campaign spokeswoman Hope Hicks, however, said she “wasn’t aware of this movement” and would not “leave the press in the dark.”

This isn’t the first time the newly minted president-elect has left the press behind.

On his first trip to Washington, D.C. after getting elected, he and his aides didn’t allow press to travel with them, bucking tradition.

“This White House Correspondents’ Association is deeply concerned by President-elect Donald Trump’s decision to reject the practice of traveling with a ‘protective pool’ of reporters for his first visit to Washington since the election,” said White House Correspondents’ Association President Jeff Mason said in a statement. “In addition to breaking with decades of historical precedent and First Amendment principles, this decision could leave Americans blind about his whereabouts and well-being in the event of a national crisis.”

Trump has routinely blasted the media as “dishonest” and “scum.”

Trump returned to his Fifth Avenue home around 9:40 p.m.
