Trump Meets with Progressive Democrat Tulsi Gabbard and Rick Perry

ABC News(NEW YORK) — Nearly two weeks since winning the presidency, Donald Trump is ensconced in Trump Tower on New York City’s Fifth Avenue as he continues work to fill top posts in his incoming administration.

Trump met with Gov. Rick Perry, a former presidential candidate who is a contender for a position in the Cabinet, sources told ABC News.

Trump also huddled with Rep. Tulsi Gabbard of Hawaii, a top progressive Democrat who was a prominent supporter of Sen. Bernie Sanders’ presidential campaign and has bucked her party on foreign affairs.

Gabbard is “under serious consideration” for various cabinet positions in Trump’s administration, a senior level official within the Trump transition team told ABC News.

Meetings are also planned with Newt Gingrich, Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin and Elaine Chao, who was the labor secretary in the George W. Bush administration and is the wife of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.

Trump held 21 meetings in two days in New Jersey over the weekend, including with Hollywood power broker Ari Emanuel and the founder of Black Entertainment Television, Robert Johnson.

Trump aides have teased a possible announcement of a pick for a national-security-related post Monday. The transition team is also rolling out Trump’s economic landing team, whose members will work with the current administration’s Treasury and Commerce departments to prepare for the transition of power.
