Two Charged in Animal Cruelty Case in Collinsville

Animal Cruelty CaseThe recent discovery of 27 malnourished dogs – forced to live in horrible conditions in a wooded area behind a home in the Collinsville area, has resulted in the arrest of two people on charges of Animal Cruelty.

68 year old William Allen Stewart and his brother, 51 year old Major Lavon Ford, stand charged with 19 counts each of Cruelty to Animals; those charges are misdemeanors.

Following an anonymous complaint – Collinsville Police went to a home in the Gregory Avenue area and in a wooded area behind the home found a total of 27 dogs in what Assistant Chief Rex Leath called “horrible” conditions.

Leath said that the dogs were cooped up in pens, uncared for and living in terrible conditions.

Leath said the owner no longer lived in the home and had reportedly left the dogs in the care of relatives because he had health issues; he added that the fact doesn’t condone what happened to the dogs.

According to WAFF TV48, no court date has yet been set – but that case is expected to go before the Collinsville Municipal Court sometime during the month of August.
