Two Fatally Injured in Cherokee County Accident Thursday Night / UPDATED

According to the Jacksonville Post of the Alabama State Troopers – two people were fatally injured in a single-vehicle accident in Cherokee County Thursday night (August 28th).

Both the driver, 24 year old Nikki Stancil of Piedmont, and a passenger, 31 year old Michael Barnwell of Anniston were fatally injured when the vehicle, a 1993 Toyota left the roadway and overturned before traveling down an embankment.

The wreck occurred at 8:35pm on Highway 278 approximately five miles east of Piedmont; according to the accident report, neither victim was wearing a seat belt.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
