Two Men Charged with Drug Possession; Child Found Alone in Room with Loaded Gun at the Scene

drugs 1Two Etowah County men are behind bars for drug possession and other charges following the discovery last Sunday afternoon – of a four year old child alone in a room with a loaded gun.

Gadsden Police responded to a report of a possible burglary at an apartment on Sixth Street at around 1:00pm; witnesses stated two men were seen climbing through an open window – one carrying a black backpack.

Officers arrived to find an open window through which they detected an odor of marijuana – inside they found a man who insisted that the odor was incense; meanwhile another man was sitting on a nearby couch.

Upstairs, officers discovered a four year old girl standing beside a bed, and on that bed they found a loaded 20 gauge shotgun, marijuana seeds and medication in a cup.

A .380 caliber handgun was found underneath a pillow on the bed the four year old usually slept in; the man who had answered the door admitted that there was yet another handgun inside the residence.

During the search police found other drugs, including methamphetamine, marijuana, pipes, scales, heroin and several items believed to have been stolen.

A total of six individuals were detained at the scene with two of those, 30 year old Nicholas Wade Ingram and 28 year old Josh Paul Pettis, being charged with drug possession.

They are being held in the Etowah County Detention Center without bond.

The Department of Human Resources was also called-in, due to the presence of the child at the location.
