Two northwest Georgia men are currently facing felony charges, in connection with what is being referred to as a scheme to exploit the elderly for money.

Christopher Jay Caldwell, age 49 and Scotty Matthew Caldwell, age 36, both of Summerville, are accused of offering to cut shrubs or trees for a fee and the pair would reportedly ask for some of the money upfront, which they would take, and then never return to do the job.

Chattooga County Sheriff Mark Schrader, said the investigation was launched in the wake of a rash of complaints coming from across the county regarding the men.

Both have prior theft convictions.

Schrader says almost all of the victims were age 65 and above.

Christopher and Scotty Caldwell have each been charged with Theft by Deception as well as the Exploitation and Intimidation of Disabled or Elder Adults.
