U.S. Department of Energy Provides Funding for Home Weatherization in Alabama

Weatherization 1Almost one million dollars has been awarded to the state of Alabama for use in helping low income, disabled and elderly residents upgrade their homes to be more energy efficient.

Alabama Governor Robert Bentley recently announced that the money, provided by the U.S. Department of Energy, will support the state’s Weatherization Assistance Program – which works to repair or upgrade homes for energy efficiency and safety.

Repairs can include extra insulation in the attic, walls and floor; sealing all air leaks around doors and windows, repairs or tune-ups for a/c and heating units; and so on.

To receive weatherization services, a complete home energy audit is required.

A total of sixteen community agencies will receive funding – with more than $67,000 going to the Community Action Agency of Northeast Alabama, which serves Cherokee and DeKalb counties along with Blount, Jackson, Marshall and St. Clair.
