Unemployment Rates Continue to Drop – in Cherokee County and Across the State

There’s some good news on the job front – Governor Robert Bentley recently announced that the unemployment rate for the state of Alabama dropped yet again; decreasing from a rate of 6.4% in October to 6.2% in November.

The last time unemployment in the state was below 6.2% was back in October of 2008 when that number was 5.9%.

The latest rates in our area include Cherokee County at 4.7% / Cleburne County at a flat 5.0% / Etowah County at 5.5% / DeKalb County at 5.9% / and Calhoun County comes in at 6.1%.

Counties with the lowest rates in the state included Shelby at 3.6% and Lee at 4.5; meanwhile the highest rates across the state were posted in Wilcox and Bullock counties – coming in at 13.9 and 11.9% respectively.
