Utility Bills In Piedmont Will Remain Due On The 15th

The Piedmont City Council Tuesday night reversed a previous decision to move up The due date for utility bills to the 10th of each month.

The council unanimously voted to keep the due date of the 15th.

Mayor Rick Freeman was not at Tuesday’s meeting due to continuing health problems, but had previously stated that the due date needed to be moved up because the city needed to pay their bills on time.

In other action, the council heard from Faye Creel with Municode about the need to update the city’s code book.

The last ordinance added in the current code book came in October of 2009.

Also Tuesday, the council authorized Mayor Freeman to enter in to negotiations regarding the possible purchase of Fagan Park by the city. The Mayor would have to report back to the council before any deal was finalized.

In other action, the council approved a motion made by Councilwoman Brenda Spears to let council members have accesss to the code to let them in the back portion of the Municipal Building and to relocate the mailboxes used by council back to the orginal area where they were located when she and the other new council members took office in November.

Mayor Freeman had previoulsy stated that the locks were installed for security to protect female workers in the office from unwanted intrusions.
