DeKalb County Man Arrested in Connection with Long-Running Drug Investigation

luis-cardona-patronWhat started as a simple traffic stop by Alabama State Troopers, became a major drug bust, late last week.

Following the stop on Thursday it was discovered that the driver, a 35 year old Valley Head resident, identified as Luis Cardona-Patron, was found to have federal warrants.

The DeKalb County Drug and Major Crimes Unit along with the DEA was called to the scene.

Patron was taken into custody and was found with over $12,000.

The federal charges stemmed from an investigation that the DeKalb County Drug and Major Crimes Unit and the DEA started some three years ago for trafficking methamphetamine.

Evidence gathered during the course of that investigation indicated Patron was responsible for multiple-pound deliveries of meth within DeKalb County and across northeast Alabama.

Ten people have thus far been arrested in connection with that investigation and it appears there will be more to come.
