Winter Storm Watch Could be Upgraded to a Winter Weather Advisory by Thursday Afternoon

The National Weather Service has now expanded a Winter Storm Watch in Central Alabama saying one to three inches of snow could fall there starting Friday. Some snowfall, although not as much, possibly up to two inches, is also possible in north Alabama.

Forecasters continue to caution that at this time there is still some uncertainty regarding an exact placement of snowfall totals – and accumulation forecasts could change between now and Friday.

The winter storm watch will be in effect from 6:00am Friday until 9:00am Saturday.

The National Weather Service stated an upgrade from a Watch to Winter Weather Advisory may be possible as early as this afternoon, and more counties to the south could be added.

The weather service said that a band of one to two inches of snow was possible, near or just south of the Interstate 20 corridor, which is a bit south of previous forecasts.
