Man Facing Multiple Drug Charges

“You’re just makin’ it hard on yourself” is the phrase that immediately comes to mind when you hear about a guy ramming his car into a house, instead of just getting out and talking to the officer. According to information contained in a news release from Etowah County Drug Enforcement Unit Deputy Commander Phil Sims, 36 year old Lewis Barnard Jones had been stopped for an expired tag – as he pulled his Lincoln Town Car into a driveway on Cleveland Avenue.  The bigger problem began when he rolled down the window and officers noticed a strong odor of marijuana.

When he was ordered to get out of the vehicle, Jones reportedly became “agitated”, jumped into the passenger seat of the car and throwing it into drive which caused it to barrel across a yard and crash into the back of a house.

Officers broke the back window out and tased Jones, taking him into custody.

Once officers searched the car, they found Klonopin pills, Suboxone strips, digital scales and around $11,000 in cash.  They also recovered a .40 caliber handgun reportedly stolen out of Rainbow City.

Jones was transported to the Etowah County Detention Center, where he was found to be in possession of marijuana while being booked in at the jail.

He stands charged with two counts of Drug Possession, with Promoting Prison Contraband, Resisting Arrest, Attempting to Elude and Reckless Endangerment.

He is being held on a $40,000 cash bond and may face additional charges relating to the gun
