Cherokee County Coroner Dr Jeremy Deaton has confirmed that the driver of an 18 wheeler that overturned around 6:20 Wednesday morning on Highway 278 was fatally injured. That accident occurred at the intersection of County Road 763 at the foot of the mountain. According to Coroner Deaton the driver has been identified as Antoni Deshon Taylor, age 36 of Milledgeville, Georgia.
Those responding included Piedmont Rescue, the Spring Garden Fire Department and Alabama State Troopers. Piedmont Rescue Squad Chief Phillip Winkles would like to express his gratitude to Charlie Fagan, for the use of his wrecker in helping to extricate the victim from the wreckage of the truck.
The cause of that accident remains under investigation.
