20 Year Old Weaver Resident Dies From Gunshot Wound to the Chest

Calhoun County authorities are investigating the fatal shooting of a 20 year old Weaver resident.

ABC 33/40 reported that, on Thursday (December 19th) – police responded to an emergency call at Shannon Hills Apartments, where they found Elizabeth Lauren Harnett, lying on the ground in front of one of the apartments.  She had been shot once in the chest.

Officers said it appeared that the shooting actually occurred inside the building at the intersection of Old Jackson Highway and McClellan Boulevard.

Harnett was transported to Regional Medical Center in Anniston, where she later died.

Police say there were two men with her at the time of the shooting one of which was detained for questioning although he has not been charged in the case; the other man left the scene prior to the arrival of law enforcement; that individual, identified as 22 year old John Denver Pegg, was later found in Clay County – where he attempted to flee from officers.

Pegg was quickly taken into custody, and is currently in the Clay County Jail, on unrelated arrest warrants.

He is currently being held for questioning in relation to the shooting incident – Pegg has not been charged in that case.
