2021 East Coast Rock Crawlers Championship Held At Cherokee Rock Village

Close to 250 participants took part in the 2021 Radio-Controlled Rock Crawlers East Coast Championships over the weekend at Cherokee Rock Village.

Event organizer Colby Johnson said that there were 6 classes and 3 full days of competition with Saturday being the biggest with 150 drivers in both classes that ran. They scored 726 runs.

Participants have traveled from all across the United States for over 10 years to take part in the event hosted at the park located just above Leesburg in Cherokee County. Park Manager Shannon Mackey said that the parks grounds keeper is heavily involved in rock crawling and acted as the liaison between the park and the association.

Mackey said that last year alone (2020) there were six different sanctioned rock crawling events at Cherokee Rock Village.

Mackey said that while rock climbers are the biggest group users of the park, rock crawlers are the second biggest group users.
