23 Acre Solar Farm Being Constructed in Northwest Georgia

Solar Panels - Natural Energy (XXL)Sunshine could be the answer – at least that’s what those behind the installation of a solar farm in Chattooga County, Georgia are hoping.

The Atlanta-based company is constructing the 23 acre site in Lyerly, directly across from Smith Ironworks on Georgia Highway 100.

He Summerville News is reporting that Hannah Solar Power CEO Pete Marte says he expects the company to begin driving racking units into the ground next month (August) – with a completion date of September 15th.

That facility will be designed to generate 1.2 megawatts of energy, which will be sold to Georgia Power – which has contracted with the company to purchase the power for a period of 20 years.

Lyerly Mayor Josh Wyatt was apparently caught “off-guard” by that announcement, stating that he hadn’t heard anything about work at the site “until the last few days.”

The property is outside the city limits, but will need to purchase its water from the city.
