Welcome to “Earthquake Wednesday”.

No, you’re not crazy.  If you thought you felt the earth move during the early morning hours – you were right.

Two quakes occurred in eastern Tennessee – the U.S. Geological Survey reports that the 4.4 and 3.3 magnitude earthquakes were centered near Decatur, Tennessee in Meigs County.

They were recorded at 3:14 and 3:27am respectively.

The 4.4 was felt as far away as Atlanta, Georgia and here in Cherokee County, Alabama with WEIS Radio receiving reports from residents in Centre, Gaylesville and other locations, that felt the ground move.

The 4.4 quake is the second strongest on record in East Tennessee – the strongest was a 4.7 near Maryville back in 1973.

Fortunately no major damage was reported during either earthquake Wednesday morning.
