4th Annual Go Green For Grayson Run Set For March 24th In Centre

Anniston Runners and Gadsden Runners get ready for the Canyon Climb 5-miler by doing 3 miles of hills with lake views in Centre, AL on March 24, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. (plus enjoy your $2 club discount at checkout). Local residents of Cherokee County, AL, anyone who knows the Huffmans, or anyone who would like to run so our most precious students in Cherokee County can have better access to educational tools and materials, come out and support our worthy cause.

The Huffmans

Sheri Salter Huffman has worked tirelessly for those affected by cerebral palsy  (CP) and other special needs students in the Cherokee County, AL school district. She has helped bring specialized equipment into the classrooms where it is needed most. Why does Sheri do this? First and foremost, she has a wonderfully giving heart, but she also has a vested interest in providing for those who do not always receive the tools they need to get an education. Her daughter, Grayson, lives with cerebral palsy, but, through Sheri’s diligence,  she is provided with additional tools she may not have received otherwise.

This year will be the 4th year of the Go Green for Grayson Run. We will not only change locations to Tates Chapel Baptist Church, but we will also add a competitive 5k, a virtual 10k for those who want to run but can’t be there on the day of the race or who just want to challenge themselves beyond the course we have available. As always we will provide a 1 mile fun run, walk, or roll for those of all ages and abilities. Other activities will include inflatables, door prizes, and FOOD!

All proceeds will go for specialized equipment and educational tools for Grayson and her peers in the Cherokee County, AL school district.

We are planning on a 70s themed race and are working on a disco ball trophy and special age group awards. What can we say? Grayson has a taste for all types of music and loves John Travolta! You can expect to hear her playlist on the day of the race! Come ready to run AND boogie down. We would love to see your costumes because a few of our volunteers need some competition.

All fun run, walk, or wheel participants will receive a participation medal, and all 10k virtual runners will receive a special 10k finishers medal, a choice of a short sleeve or long sleeve polyblend race shirt, and maybe a few little 70s themed prizes (how about a disco ball keychain?). Virtual 10k runners will need to email proof of completion of 6.2 miles via screenshot of their app, etc. to missfitmotherrunner@gmail.com within 2 weeks of completion of the race on March 24, 2018. We can’t just mail you a medal without you putting in some work; there’s honor among runners . Exceptions do apply in the case of surgery, etc. Just email us and let us know what is going on.

5k age group awards will be 1st through 3rd places in 5 year age increments for each gender. Overall trophies will be awarded to the top 3 male and female finishers.

Let’s go green for Grayson and Boogie Down to end cerebral palsy!

**Notes: March is Cerebral Palsy Awareness Month and green is its symbolic awareness color. I’m sensing some green afroes on some runners. Can’t wait!
