Important Message From Cherokee County EMA Director Shawn Rogers

IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM EMA DIRECTOR SHAWN ROGERS

As most of you are aware, Cherokee County EMA conducted a test of the outdoor weather sirens on Wednesday morning at 10:00.  There were five sirens that did not go off.  Those sirens are as follows:

  1. Centre City Hall
    2. Cherokee County High School
    3. John’s Crossroads
    4. Tucker’s Chapel
    5. Rock Run

There are a total of 16 sirens throughout Cherokee County. In the coming weeks I will be getting those sirens looked at and hopefully repaired, if they are able to be repaired. Keep in mind several people notified the EMA office that they were unable to hear the sirens from inside their homes; however, when they went outside they were able to hear them. The outdoor weather sirens are intended for outdoor notification. They were not designed to be heard inside your homes or buildings. Typically the only people who hear them inside are people that live very close to them.

A good weather alert app is Saf-T-Net by Barron Services. This app will send you weather alert notifications over your smart phone or tablet. Cherokee County EMA has an automated notification system currently in place. It is called CodeRED. I strongly encourage everyone to sign up with CodeRED. If Cherokee County goes under any type of weather warning and you sign up with CodeRED, you will receive an automated phone call, informing you of the severe weather warning, on your home phone, cell phone, or a notification on the CodeRED app. You can receive notifications on all 3 if you choose to. The CodeRED system is the easiest and most efficient way to receive those important severe weather warnings. There is a .99 cent yearly subscription charge to be able to customize your weather notifications. All you have to do is go to your app store or Google Play and search for CodeRED and download it to configure your settings.
