Etowah County Sheriff’s Office officials have arrested a 51 year old female school employee, following accusations that she was sexually involved with a student.

It was announced Tuesday, that Sonya Ann Wilks Bailey was taken into custody Monday, on charges of a School Employee Engaging in Sex Acts with a Student; Sodomy 2nd Degree and Rape 2nd Degree – all felonies.

She allegedly sent sexually explicit photos and engaged in sex acts with a student, while she was employed by the Etowah County Board of Education as a teacher.  Although authorities didn’t say where she taught, according to a report by al.com – citing a school website Bailey was a Commerce and Information Technology Teacher at West End High School.

Bailey reportedly resigned on Monday (August 28th) after the allegations came to light.

She was booked in at the Etowah County Detention Center on a $60,000 property bond, and according to Sheriff Todd Entrekin, as a condition of bond, must have no contact with either the victim or their family.
