Perry, Elrod’s outside shooting lead Warrior basketball teams past Jacksonville

CENTRE – Cherokee County High School’s Karlee Perry and Connor Elrod had the hot hands from the outside arc against Jacksonville in Class 4A, Area 10 basketball action on Tuesday night. They both sank six 3-pointers in leading their respective teams to victory.

Perry finished with 22 points in the Lady Warriors’ 59-49 comeback win. Elrod netted 18 points in the Warrior boys’ 59-54 victory.

In the girls game, Audrey Green added four treys and finished with 16 points for the Lady Warriors. Mary Hayes Johnson connected on a pair of 3-pointers and had 15 points.

Amarie Curry led the Lady Golden Eagles with a game-high 26 points. Kayla Broom added nine points and Patience Carr contributed six points.

The Lady Warriors held a 14-13 edge at the end of the first quarter, but Jacksonville surged ahead at halftime 27-22. Cherokee County managed to cut Jacksonville’s lead to a point at 43-42 at the end of the third quarter. The Lady Warriors went on a 17-6 run in the fourth for the final.

In the boys game, the two teams were deadlocked at 15 after the first quarter, but the Warriors surged out ahead 31-24 by halftime. Cherokee County maintained a 46-41 advantage after three quarters.

Slade Alexander netted 14 points for the Warriors. Jack Amos added 13 points and Nas Diamond finished with 12 points.

Quinn Long led the Golden Eagles with 20 points. Caden Johnson added 15 points. Nathan Barnwell and Cam Johnson finished with eight and five points respectively.
