Commission Chairman Tim Burgess announced that there would be an appointment/reappointment to the CED Mental Health Board at the next meeting on May 24th, there will also be an appointment made to the Cherokee County Communications District Board due a resignation.

The Commission also approved necessary roof repairs to be made to the Cherokee County Board of Education Building in the amount of $35,000. Chairman Burgess noted that the current Board of Education building DOES belong to the County NOT the Board of Education, thus the county is responsible for the repairs.

A motion was also passed authorizing the establishment of an account at People’s Bank for Coronavirus Rescue Act Funds. Cherokee County will be receiving a total of $5 million dollars in two $2.5 million allotments. Burgess noted that at this time the county has no plans to spend the money right away as they await clarification on exactly what the money can be used for.

A job description was approved for a Supervisor Corrections Officer and a job posting was approved for the Cherokee County Animal Shelter.

The next Cherokee County Commission meeting will be Monday, May 24th at 10:00 a.m.
