18-Wheeler Accident on Alabama Highway 9 South of Centre Thursday Morning / UPDATE – ROAD NOW OPEN

UPDATE:

ROAD NOW OPEN as of 7:30am

*

Traffic is being detoured this (Thursday) morning – in the wake on an 18-wheeler accident taking place on Alabama Highway 9 south of Centre near County Road 441.

The driver, listed on the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency accident report as a resident of Birmingham, lost control of the 2020 Freightliner and that rig – which was hauling a load of frozen chicken, rolled over onto its side.

The driver was unhurt however – a passenger in the vehicle, a resident of Calera, was listed as sustaining injuries.

Southbound traffic toward Piedmont is being detoured on County Road 128 over to County Road 71 back to 59 and back to 411; meanwhile northbound traffic from Piedmont near the Country Club is being routed onto County Road 163 over to Highway 411.

When approaching that area, slow down and exercise caution.

We understand the 18-wheeler has already been up-righted and hopefully the scene will be cleared shortly.

The accident occurred around 3:00am.
