81 Year Old Driver Killed in Collision with Log Truck Tuesday

Rome Wreck DeathOne person was killed in a wreck, involving a passenger car and a logging truck, on Tuesday afternoon in Floyd County.

The wreck occurred at around noon on the new West Rome Bypass at Blacks Bluff Road.

According to Floyd County Police, a Hyundai Elantra driven by 81 year old Roy Beckham, of a Boyd Road address, was traveling on Blacks Bluff Road and attempted to cross to the loop when he pulled into the path of the logging truck which was traveling toward Georgia 20 on the bypass.

The truck t-boned the car.

Beckham was transported to Floyd Medical Center where was pronounced dead. The driver of the logging truck was not hurt.

No citations were issued.

Around the same time, at 12:01pm, another wreck occurred at Highway 20 at Highway 100.

According to police reports 50 year old Cathy Camp of Rome driving a passenger car turned in front of a cargo van, being driven by 61 year old Tyrone Pullings of College Park.

Camp was taken by personal vehicle to Floyd Medical Center with complaints of injuries.

Pullings was not hurt and no citations were issued.
