An extremely large python, approximately nine feet in length, was reportedly seen Monday afternoon along County Road 131 – between the Country Store and Riverside Campground – in Cedar Bluff.

WEIS Radio News spoke with Cherokee County Animal Control Officer, Dustin Dutton, who confirmed the sighting.

And it pretty much goes without saying but – if you see the snake contact Animal Control or Cedar Bluff Police immediately; you should not attempt to approach the snake, or make any attempt to capture it whatsoever.

Area residents are also encouraged to keep all children and pets inside.

It’s unclear at this time where the snake came from; or whether it was released on purpose or simply managed to escape from its owner.
