ABC’s “The Year in Memoriam 2017” special, saluting Don Rickles, Mary Tyler Moore, Tom Petty, and others, airs tonight

ABC/Donna Svennevik(LOS ANGELES) — Just a reminder that ABC will air a new special that pays tribute to the many beloved celebrities who we’ve lost this year. The hour-long program will include tributes to Tom Petty, Chuck Berry, Glen Campbell, David Cassidy and many other stars.

The Year in Memoriam 2017, airing tonight at 10 p.m. ET, will feature a variety of guest stars who will pay homage to the late legends. Alice Cooper, Sean Penn, Melissa Etheridge, Ben Harper and country singer Hunter Hayes will appear in the segment honoring Petty, while Cooper, Etheridge, Hayes, Paul Shaffer and Darius Rucker will be featured in the Berry tribute.

Dolly Parton, Brad Paisley, Cooper, Rucker and Hayes, meanwhile, will salute Campbell.  Brady Bunch star Maureen McCormick is among the celebs who will share recollections of Cassidy.

The show was conceived by talk-show host Jimmy Kimmel and will be emceed by Robin Roberts.

Among the other late stars whose lives and legacies will be saluted during the show are Mary Tyler Moore, Jerry Lewis and Don Rickles.

Meanwhile, a companion special anchored by Roberts, titled The Year: 2017 that will look at the major events that took place during the past 12 months, airs on ABC Tuesday, December 19, at 9 p.m. ET.
