The Alabama Department of Public Health has released its “COVID-19 Vaccine Plan”, which could begin before the end of the year.
Phase 1 vaccines will be given to individuals considered high risk, and health care workers who could be directly exposed to the virus.
Phase 2 starts when large numbers of doses become available, and supply is likely to meet demand. It will be for critical populations not vaccinated in Phase 1.
Phase 3 will go into effect when there is likely to be a sufficient supply, and all unvaccinated groups will be able to take the vaccine.
The ADPH says the plan will be to make sure there are a number of vaccination sites across the state, especially in rural counties and those areas with a high concentration of people in vulnerable populations. The ADPH says the vaccine will be provided FREE of charge.
