Adult Softball Survives Despite Light Bill

There will be an adult softball season in Centre this year, despite concerns over the power bill.

The Centre City Council recently heard from Mayor Tony Wilkie that the bill is anywhere from 5 to 6 thousand dollars a month during the season.

In addition, the person who had been running the program and renting the fields from the city will not be able to do so this year.

Possible options included not having adult softball at all this year or handling it in house and cutting back on night games.

Councilman Derrick Wheeler then made a motion.

The motion was approved unanimously by the council.

Wilkie said during a recent work session that only way to possibly lower the electric bill would be to install four meters, one for each field.

The city would still be paying the “On Demand” rate but the demand would not be as high.
