After 35 years, Eddie Murphy makes grand return to ‘SNL’ this weekend

ABC/Randy Holmes(NEW YORK) — It’s been 35 years since Eddie Murphy hosted Saturday Night Live.  The drought that started in 1984 will end this Saturday when the comedian returns to the stage alongside musical guest Lizzo.

In a dramatic promotional black and white video, Murphy slowly walks down the iconic NBC halls as Lizzo’s “Cuz I Love You” blares in the background.

The Coming to America star struts into Studio 8H as if he’s never left and whips off his glasses as he stares triumphantly into the camera.  Indeed, the legend has come home.

Then, his comedic personality shines through as he briefly wiggles his eyebrows and grins before the screen suddenly goes dark.

To pump people up for the comic’s grand return, Saturday Night Live‘s official YouTube created a special playlist chock full of Eddie Murphy’s iconic skits and appearances, such as “Mister Robinson’s Neighborhood” and “White Like Me.”  In all, the playlist contains nearly 100 throwback videos.

Murphy returns to SNL this Saturday at 11:30 p.m. ET on NBC.
