AHSAA Class 4A – 7A Track & Field State Championships Day 1 Results

The AHSAA Class 4A-7A Track & Field State Championships take place Thursday, May 2 through Saturday, May 4 from Mickey Miller Blackwell Stadium in Gulf Shores, Alabama. 

Here are the area results from Day 1 of the competition.  

Girls 1600m: Cherokee County’s Erin McCord was 12th with a time of 5:53.16

Girls 4x100m Relay: Cherokee County qualified for the 4A finals with a time of 53.06 (Laney Kate Johnson, Mary Hayes Johnson, Destinee Scott, Doncie Dupree)

Girls Long Jump: Class 4A Hokes Bluff’s Megan (15’8 1/4″) & Haleigh Cashman (15″5 3/4″) finished 3rd & 4th respectively.  Megan scored six team points and earned a bronze medal for her outstanding effort.

Girls Shot Put: The Warriors Destiny Scott earned five team points for Cherokee County with a fourth place toss of 32’10 1/2″ while Grace Locklear also scored a point with her eighth place throw of 29’9 3/4″. Shea Stephens finished 17th recording a mark of 28’2 3/4″. 

Boys 4x100m Relay: Both Hokes Bluff and Cherokee County boys relays failed to advance to the finals.

Boys Discus: Hayden Lipscomp of Hokes Bluff gained a point for the Eagles as the senior topped out at 124’8″ which was good for eighth place.

Boys Javelin: Hokes Bluff senior Braydon Hill became the first area male athlete to medal.  Hill measured 161’4″ to capture 3rd place and six team points. Hayden Lipscomb garnered four team points with his fifth place throw of 155’2″ while Eagle teammate Christopher Vest was 18th (127’11”). 

The AHSAA Class 1A-3A Track & Field State Championships will take place on Friday, May 3 and Saturday, May 4 at Oliver Woodard Stadium on the campus of Cullman High School.
