MONTGOMERY – Thirteen area football players received recognition Tuesday morning in the Alabama High School Athletic Association’s Spotlight for Week 6.
Leading the way was Cherokee County senior running back Damien Ramsey, who accumulated 265 rushing yards on 18 carries and four touchdowns on runs of 58, 64, 1 and 60 yards in the Warriors’ 34-21 victory over Munford. Ramsey also caught a 38-yard touchdown pass.
The Class 4A Warriors (5-1) were led on defense by senior defensive back CJ Gresham, who had two second-quarter interceptions in the win over the Lions.
Cherokee County travels to top-ranked Handley (5-0) on Friday.
In Class 3A, Piedmont suffered its first loss of the season in a 28-24 setback at Ohatchee. Junior quarterback Jack Hayes completed 14-of-21 pass attempts for 223 yards and a 22-yard touchdown connection with senior receiver Austin Estes. Hayes also ran for 96 yards and two scores. Estes caught eight passes for 158 yards.
Piedmont (5-1) hosts Pleasant Valley (1-5) for homecoming on Friday.
Class 2A Sand Rock stayed unbeaten on the road with a 56-14 thrashing of Locust Fork. Junior quarterback Ace Ashley connected on 12 of his 15 pass attempts for 242 yards and four touchdowns (48, 8, 26 and 44 yards). He also ran for a 2-yard score.
Junior tight end Logan Crider caught five passes for 105 yards and three scores in the Wildcat win.
On defense, junior defensive back Brian Giles picked off two passes and senior defensive back Tru Graham returned a fumble 27 yards for a touchdown.
Sand Rock (5-1) hits the road again to West End of Walnut Grove (3-3) this Friday.
Staying in Class 2A, Spring Garden freshman quarterback Chapel Pope made his first start of the season following a foot injury to older brother Chaz Pope. The younger Pope completed 3-of-4 pass attempts for 84 yards and two touchdowns – both to senior receiver Cooper Austin covering 24 and 51 yards. Pope also scored on a 28-yard touchdown run to lead the Panthers to a 47-0 homecoming win over Gaston. It was the first time Spring Garden (6-0) had ever beaten Gaston at home in the series.
On defense, junior defensive back Larry Rogers returned an interception 38 yards for a touchdown in the win.
Spring Garden travels to Westbrook Christian (2-4) on Friday.
Class 1A Cedar Bluff also posted a big homecoming win with its 54-12 victory over Woodville. Senior quarterback Jacob Burleson was a perfect 4-for-4 passing with 167 yards and three touchdowns. He also ran for two scores in the win.
Junior receiver Bucky Leek caught four passes for 148 yards and both touchdowns from Burleson covering 46 and 78 yards. He also ran for a 56-yard score on the first play from scrimmage.
Cedar Bluff (3-3) hosts rival Gaylesville (4-3) on Friday.
In other statewide happenings, it was no surprise that Fyffe High School senior quarterback and linebacker Kyle Dukes guided the Red Devils to what they do best once again last week – run the football and win.
The 5-foot-10, 210-pound Dukes rushed for 141 yards on 18 carries as Fyffe beat DeKalb County rival Plainview 45-19. The Red Devils had 55 running plays for 407 rushing yards in what was Fyffe’s 50th consecutive victory dating back to the third round of the AHSAA Class 2A state playoffs in 2017. Dukes and Coach Paul Benefield’s entire Fyffe football team earned this week’s AHSAA Football Spotlight.
Since that 35-28 quarterfinal playoff loss to Sulligent in 2017, the Red Devils have posted three straight 15-0 seasons and are currently 5-0 this season.
Fyffe became just the third team in AHSAA football history to win 50 in a row in the process and coupled with Southern Columbia Area (PA) High School’s 41-21 loss to Wyomissing (PA) last week, the Red Devils own the nation’s longest current high school football winning streak, according to published AP reports and MaxPreps.
Southern Columbia Area held the longest streak at 65 wins after Minnesota prep powerhouse Caledonia High School was beaten by Lake City 30-13 in September to end its winning streak at 71 in a row dating back to 2014.
Fyffe has won 77 of its last 78 games since 2016 and during the same stretch as Caledonia’s winning streak the Red Devils have posted a 120-3 record for a winning rate of 97.6%. Junior teammate Brody Hicks added 67 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 13 carries in the win Plainview’s Bears (4-2). Fyffe improved to 37-23-1 in the series with Plainview.
No team in Alabama has won more games than Fyffe in this century. Since 2001, Fyffe has compiled a 242-26 record – averaging just 1.2 losses per year and 11.5 wins.
A 2A school for most of that time, Fyffe won state 2A titles in 2014, 2016, 2018 and 2019 and captured the Class 3A state crown last season. The Red Devils also finished as runner-up in Class 2A in 2015 and 2007 and reached the state playoffs every year since 2001. Class 7A Hoover owns a 237-35 record during that same stretch and Class 5A UMS-Wright is 229-31.
Clay County High School, which closed after the 2011 season and merged with Lineville to create Central of Clay County High School in 2012, set the AHSAA state record for consecutive wins (55) from 1994-97. Fyffe and Clay County each put together their streaks while also competing each year in the post-season football playoffs. The Panthers won 16 straight playoff games before the streak finally ended in the second round of the 1997 Class 2A state playoffs when Luverne won 20-14.
Fyffe currently owns a 15-game playoff winning streak. Hazlewood, now closed, holds the record for consecutive playoff wins (29). The Bears won five state crowns in a row from 1988-92.
Verbena High School won 50 in a row 1950-54, and Tuscaloosa High School won 49 straight games from 1926-31. James Porch came close to having an even longer streak at Verbena. The Class 1A Chilton County high school went 9-1 in 1949 losing to Montgomery County 19-14 in the last game of the season. The streak ended in 1955 with Elmore County ending the streak with a 7-0 victory in the second week of the season. Verbena rebounded, however, to finish 9-1 – giving the school a 68-2 record from 1949-55.
Neither team had a football playoff but Tuscaloosa did play a “national championship” game of sorts in 1926 beating Senn High School in Illinois 42-0 in the last game of the season. Senn had been touted as the top team in the nation Tuscaloosa Coach Paul Burnum begged to differ, got them to agree to play a game and to Illinois to prove who was best. The Black Bears had a streak of 64 straight games without a loss, however, which is still an AHSAA record.
During that stretch (1925-1932) Tuscaloosa had seven straight undefeated seasons – including three ties and compiled a 61-0-3 record. Al Clemens coached the three years of the streak, which ended with rival Holt winning 6-0 in the first game of the 1932 season.
According to published reports, other current football winning streaks nationally include: Corner Canyon or Draper (Utah) (48); Kirtland (Ohio) 47; Peabody (Tennessee) (44); Chandler (Arizona) (42); Riverheads (Virginia) (41); and Bixby (Oklahoma) (40). Two other schools, Muskego (Wisconsin) (41) and Landon/Edmore/Munich (North Dakota) (43) had streaks broken this season.
The second longest current streak in the AHSAA belongs to defending Class 7A state champion Thompson (7-0), which has won 25 in a row heading in to this week’s home game with Gadsden City, and defending Class 4A state champion Handley has won its last 10 in a row.
Fyffe’s Benefield is just the third head coach at the school since 1970. Ron Haushalter compiled a 162-109 record from 1970-1994; David Wofford was 9-13 in two seasons (1995-96); and Benefield is 272-42 at Fyffe since 1997. He is 317-53 with five years at Sylvania High School, located just 10 miles up the road in DeKalb County from Fyffe.
The milestone winning streak victory by Fyffe edged another outstanding team effort turned in by Slocomb High School. The Red Tops (3-3) tied an AHSAA state record with eight interceptions in a 35-7 Class 3A, Region 2 win over New Brockton last week.
Brody Campbell and Jaylen Nobles both earned two interceptions for the Red Tops of Coach Richard Tisdale. Campbell returned one of his picks 55 yards for a TD, and Nobles scooted 72 yards for a TD on one of his swipes. Braylon Miller, Cade Birge, Asael Morin and Caulin Thomas also had one interception each for Slocomb in the win.
The record tied the listed mark on the AHSAA website of eight by Talladega County Central in a 25-14 win over White Plains in 1999.
MILESTONES
WHITE BROTHERS MEET AGAIN: Bob Jones’ Rayshwan Hardy gained 177 yards rushing, scored three touchdowns (6, 5 and 3 yards) and completed 7-of-12 passes for 131 yards in a 25-20 Class 7A, Region 4 win over Sparkman.
The win gave Coach Kelvis White a 2-1 edge over his brother Laron White. They squared off in 2016 when Kelvis was at Mae Jemison and Laron was at Tanner, and Mae Jemison won 48-28. Laron returned the favor in 2020 when Sparkman shut out Bob Jones 31-0. The two outstanding coaches are the sons of Alabama High School Sports Hall of Fame Coach Louis White and the nephews of HOF Coach Hoover White. Both coached at Courtland.
PHILLIPS SETS SCORING RECORD: Place-kicker Guillem Llinares was quite busy Friday night booting nine extra points and scoring a touchdown as Phillips, coached by Adam Lawler, set a school record with a 76-0 win over Cherokee. The 76 points was the largest margin of victory in school history. Llinares also kicked seven kickoffs into the end zone resulting in touchbacks. Phillips opened the 2008 season with an 80-40 win over Mount Hope and a month later beat Vina 82-44 for the most points scored in a game.
Ironically, almost a month later, the Bears, coached back then by Gary McCarley, lost in the first round of the state playoffs to South Lamar 79-46 to finish that season 7-4. Phillips scored 576 points (52.4 points per game) that year and gave up 361 (32.8 per game) – an average of 82.5 ppg scored by both teams. Phillips has just 22 players on its 2021 roster above the ninth grade.
FAIRVIEW FINALLY GETS WIN OVER BOAZ: Quarterback Parker Martin was 12-of-20 passing for 130 yards and one TD, rushed for 72 yards and two scores on 20 carries and made two interceptions on defense as the Aggies edged Boaz 21-18 in Class 5A, Region 7. His final pick on defense came with 2:16 left to play to seal Fairview’s first win over Boaz in five meetings.

BUZZER BEATERS
AARON ROWE, JAMES CLEMENS: Kicked a game-winning 32-yard field goal with nine seconds remaining for a 45-42 win over Florence.
BRANDON MUSCH, WESTMINSTER CHRISTIAN: Rushed 11 times for 67 yards and two touchdowns, including the game-winning 4-yard TD with 12 seconds remaining to lift Westminster past New Hope 31-28. He also completed 13-of-29 passes for 89 yards and a TD.
JOHN WILLIAMS, J.B. PENNINGTON: Accounted for 20 tackles on defense, rushed for 180 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries and caught the game-winning two-point conversion pass in a 43-42 win over Carbon Hill in the Class 3A, Region 6 win.
CLARK TURNER, UMS-WRIGHT: Turner’s interception in the final five minutes sealed UMS’ 34-28 come-from-behind win over Faith Academy in Class 5A, Region 1.
ELI MUSSO, HALEYVILLE: Keyed a fourth-quarter comeback that resulted in 28 straight points that erased a 21-3 Hamilton lead and the Lions won the 4A, Region 5 thriller 31-28. Musso had TD runs of 1 and 40 yards, the last one providing the winning points, and finished with 14 carries for 120 rushing yards. Zeke Shipman booted a 40-yard field goal for Haleyville’s only first-half points – and in the end provided the winning margin.
RUSHING
BRAYLON McREYNOLDS, McGILL-TOOLEN CATHOLIC: The Yellow Jackets’ workhorse running back had 34 carries for 336 yards and 4 touchdowns in a 31-21 win over Baldwin County.
JORDAN WASHINGTON, HELENA: Gained 291 yards rushing on 21 carries and scored six touchdowns as the Huskies beat Chilton County 47-40 in Class 6A, Region 3.
GAVIN BROWN, CORNER: Had 38 carries for 290 yards and two touchdowns in the Yellow Jacket’ 27-26 loss to Lincoln in Class 5A, region 6.
MASON CARTEE, PRICEVILLE: Picked up 253 yards rushing and five touchdowns (39, 35, 30, 15 and 11 yards) on 28 carries, and converted a 2-point run in a 58-43 Class 4A, Region 8 win over Rogers.
MALEEK POPE, SYLACAUGA: Had 21 carries for 236 yards and four touchdowns as the Aggies downed Elmore County 42-21 in Class 5A, Region 4.
BRAYDEN KYLE, DECATUR HERITAGE: Rushed for 194 yards and four touchdowns on eight carries, and passed for 158 yards and three TDs in a 52-14 win over Waterloo in Class 1A, Region 7. He finished with 352 yards and accounted for seven TDs.
TIMOTHY McREYNOLDS, GENEVA: Accumulated 280 total yards and four touchdowns in the Panthers’ 34-21 Class 4A, Region 2 win over Straughn. He rushed for 256 yards with three TDs (1, 4 and 34 yards), caught one pass for 24 yards and a TD, and had an interception and six tackles on defense in the win.
JAYLEN MURRY, WICKSBURG: Ran for 237 yards and three touchdowns on 13 carries, and teammate Charles Snyder had 208 yards on eight rush attempts and also scored three TDs as the Panthers (6-1) downed Daleville 66-22 in Class 3A, Region 2 action. Snyder also caught a 33-yard touchdown pass.
ELI ENNIS, OHATCHEE: Picked up 227 yards rushing, including 148 in the fourth quarter, and scored three touchdowns (31, 41 and 84 yards) in the Indians’ 28-24 Class 3A, Region 5 win over Piedmont.
JAMARIAN LEWIS, EUFAULA: Totaled 364 yards and four touchdowns in the Tigers’ 33-0 win over Valley in Class 6A, Region 2. He rushed for 212 yards and three touchdowns (81, 58 and 2 yards) and passed for 152 yards and one TD (24 yards).
JARIUS HOUSTON CHICKSAW: Had 22 carries for 201 yards and one touchdown to help the Chieftains down Cottage Hill Christian 34-7 in Class 3A, Region 1.
KIERSTAN ROGERS, THEODORE: Rushed for 197 yards and 5 touchdowns as the Bobcats (6-0) beat Davidson 36-3 in Class 7A, Region 1.
EVAN SMITH, OAK MOUNTAIN: Ran 12 times for 189 yards and four touchdowns and completed 7-of-14 passes for 78 yards and a score in the Eagles’ 35-7 Class 7A, Region 3 win over Spain Park.
TUCKER GRIFFIN, HOKES BLUFF: Ran for 189 yards and four touchdowns as the Eagles beat Weaver 35-0 in Class 3A, Region 5.
KIAL COTTINGHAM, MONTEVALLO: Rushed for 152 yards and two touchdowns on 13 rush attempts, completed 8-of-11 passes for 115 yards and another score as the Bulldogs downed West Blocton 37-36 in Class 4A, Region 3. He also accounted for seven tackles.
JALEN FLETCHER, WEST MORGAN: Rushed for 146 yards and two touchdowns on 28 carries in a 27-24 win over Central-Florence in Class 4A, Region 8.
RAMERIUS YELVERTON, LEEDS: Had 26 carries for 155 yards and three touchdowns as the Green Wave beat Center Point 28-0. He had a 41-yard pass reception for the fourth TD – giving him all four Leeds touchdowns in the Class 5A, Region 6 win.
WILL STOKES, MADISON ACADEMY: Ran for 147 yards and four touchdowns (38, 25, 13 and 6 yards) and caught a 30-yard TD pass in a 42-16 win over Randolph.
KADEN COOPER, OPELIKA: Led the Bulldogs to a hard-fought 52-35 win over Russell County in 6A, Region 2 with 15 carries for 122 yards and three rushing touchdowns.
FLUFF BOTHWELL, ONEONTA: Was one of two running backs rushing for more than 100 yards in the Redskins’ 34-6 Class 4A, Region 6 win over Hanceville. He had five carries for 122 yards and two touchdowns, and teammate Collin Moon had eight rush attempts for 110 yards and three scores.
ERIC FUQUA, LAUDERDALE COUNTY: Rushed 11 times for 94 yards and scored five touchdowns (34, 4, 1, 4 and 9 yards) as the Tigers (7-0) remained unbeaten with a 49-20 win over Clements in Class 3A, Region 8.
PASSING
COLE McCARTY, GUNTERSVILLE: Completed 15-of-15 passes for 334 yards and three touchdowns, and ran for 78 yards and a TD in a 63-6 win over Sardis in Class 5A, Region 7.
ANTHONY JOHNSON, MIDFIELD: Completed 20-of-24 passes for 305 yards and two touchdowns in the Patriots’ 22-6 victory over Winston County in Class 2A, Region 5.
STONE LAWLESS, HUNTSVILLE: Was 15-of-21 for 304 passing yards and four touchdowns (53, 27, 16 and 12 yards) and the Panthers rolled to a 56-21 win over Albertville in Class 7A, Region 4.
GRAY JENNINGS, OPP: Was 13-of-22 passing for 275 yards and four touchdowns in a41-18 Class 3A, Region 2 win over Providence Christian. His TD passes covered 11, 90, 5 and 17 yards.
KHALIB JOHNSON, CLAY-CHALKVILLE: Was 20-of-28 passing for 256 yards and five touchdowns and ran for 4-yard score to pace the Cougars (6-0) to a 46-14 Class 6A, Region 6 win over previously unbeaten Jackson-Olin (5-1).
KEYWONE POSEY, PINSON VALLEY: The backup quarterback completed 15-of-24 passes for 248 yards and three touchdowns while playing for injured starter Zach Pyron to lead the defending 6A state champion Indians past Mortimer Jordan 40-24 in Class 6A, Region 6.
BLAISE VICKERY, HACKLEBURG: Was 12-of-17 passing for 238 yards and five touchdowns in a 62-12 win over Shoals Christian in Class 1A, Region 8.
CHRIS VIZZINA, BRIARWOOD CHRISTIAN: Was 17-of-19 passing for 232 yards and two touchdowns and ran 15 times for 96 yards and two scores as the Lions beat Shades Valley 28-7 in Class 6A, Region 5.
HAYES HUNT, ALABAMA CHRISTIAN: Connected on 11-of-14 passes attempted for 222 passing yards and fired five touchdowns – to five different receivers – and the Eagles bet Ashford 56-14 in Class 4A, Region 2. His TD passes covered 25, 26, 33, 21 and 62 yards.
WILLIAM SHELTON, PARKER: Completed all seven of his pass attempts for 203 yards and four touchdowns and also rushed for a 63-yard TD as the Thundering Herd (6-0) beat John Carroll Catholic 48-0. He only played in the first half of the 5A, Region 5 battle.
K.J. LACEY, DAPHNE: Making his first varsity start at quarterback, the freshman finished 13-of-20 passing for 225 yards and two touchdowns in the Trojans’ 55-7 Class 7A, Region 1 victory over Alma Bryant.
RILEY HARMON, OAK GROVE: Totaled 234 yards and accounted for four touchdowns in a 50-16 win over Curry in Class 4A, Region 5. The quarterback was 8-of-12 passing for 126 yards and two TDs and had nine rush attempts for 108 yards and two more scores – all in the first half as the Tigers (1-6) picked up their first win of the year.
CONNOR MORGAN, MUNFORD: Was 14-of-21 passing for 208 yards and two touchdowns covering 48 and 28 yards, in a 34-21 Class 4A, Region 4 to Cherokee County.
KYLE PACE, PHIL CAMPBELL: Completed 6-of-6 passes for 206 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Panthers to a 42-7 Class 3A, Region 8 win over Colbert Heights.
A.J. WALLACE, MOODY: The junior was 9-of-12 passing for 167 yards and two touchdowns and also rushed for 177 yards and three scores on nine carries to lead the Blue Devils past St. Clair county 63-0 in Class 5A, Region 6. He totaled 344 yards and five TDs on the night.
JORDAN ROBERTSON, SUMITON CHRISTIAN: Completed 9-of-14 pass attempts for 179 yards and two touchdowns (24 and 68 yards) in the Eagles’ 28-12 Class 1A, Region 7 win over Gaylesville.
K.J. JACKSON, SAINT JAMES: Paced the Trojans’ offense with 10-of-15 passes completed for 179 yards and three touchdowns as Saint James beat Booker T. Washington 52-24.
ZACH KITTRELL, BAYSIDE ACADEMY: Was 8-of-12 passing for 158 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for 105 yards to lead the Admirals past Flomaton 28-21 in Class 3A, Region 3.
JAMES ED JOHNSON, ARAB: Totaled 219 yards on offense as the Knights improved to 4-0 in Class 6A, Region 7 with a 17-6 win over Pell City. He rushed for 125 yards and one TD on an 8-yard run in the fourth quarter and passed for 94 yards and another TD. He 19-yard TD pass was caught by twin brother John Wesson Johnson in the second period.
RICCO WELLS, WENONAH: Amassed 224 yards total offense as the Dragons beat Cordova 40-27 for Wenonah’s first win of the season. He was 5-of-10 passing for 132 yards and added 12 carries for 92 yards and three touchdowns in the 5A, Region 5 win.
JAMESON SCISSUM, ETOWAH: Completed 17-of-19 passes for 166 yards and a TD in a 20-19 loss to Good Hope in Class 4A, Region 6.
PASS RECEIVING
RYAN PEPPINS, THOMPSON: Caught 11 passes for 235 yards and three touchdowns in to lead Thompson (7-0) to a 49-7 win over Vestavia Hills. The Class 7A, Region 3 win upped the Warriors’ current winning streak to a row.
JAMARI HAWKINS, BAKER: Pulled down seven pass receptions for 200 yards and four touchdowns, added 55 yards rushing and two more TDs on three carries to account for 255 total yards and six touches on 10 touches to lead the Hornets to a 61-19 win over Murphy in Class 6A, Region 1.
DADA STOUDEMIRE, OPP: Caught a 90-yard TD pass and finished with three catches for 159 yards as the Bobcats beat Providence Christian 41-8 in Class 3A, Region 2.
JAREL WILLIAMS, SARALAND: Caught 11 passes for 157 yards and two touchdowns as the Spartans stunned Spanish Fort 28-16 in Class 6A, Region 1.
BRYANT LOVING, HAMILTON: Caught nine passes for 150 yards and two touchdowns covering 40 and 32 yards and also threw a 64-yard TD pass in a 31-29 loss to Haleyville.
KARMELLO ENGLISH, CENTRAL-PHENIX CITY: Caught nine passes for 141 yards and two touchdowns in the Red Devils’ 21-14 win over Auburn in Class 7A, Region 2.
JAQUAN ANDERSON, MUNFORD: Had seven catches for 132 yards and two touchdowns (48 and 28 yards) in a 34-21 loss at Cherokee County.
BLAIN GOODSON, PHIL CAMPBELL: Caught three passes for 129 yards and three t touchdowns covering 26, 23 and 80 yards as the Bobcats beat Colbert Heights 42-7 in Class 4A, Region 8.
BRAYLYN FARRINGTON, CALERA: Caught five passes for 104 yards and two touchdowns in the win over Stanhope Elmore in Class 6A, Region 3.
OMARION FINCH, ETOWAH: Had 11 catches for 104 yards and a TD in a 20-19 setback to Good Hope.
ASHTON McCLENDON, SUMITON CHRISTIAN: Led the Eagles with three pass receptions for 101 yards and a 31-yard touchdown in a 28-12 win over Gaylesville.
DEFENSE
MATTHEW McDONALD, MOODY: The senior linebacker recorded 18 tackles, including six resulting in lost yardage, in Moody’s 63-0 win over St. Clair County.
DEE GRIFFEN, REELTOWN: Totaled 15 tackles with two resulting in losses to lead the Rebels as Trinity Presbyterian won the 3A, Region 4 defensive struggle 17-14.
NELSON HALL, OPP: Totaled 13 tackles and Robbie Gafford had 12 to lead Opp past Providence Christian 41-18.
BRANDON PURIFOY, VIGOR: Managed 11 tackles, a sack and a fumble recovery as the unbeaten Wolves (6-0) blanked Escambia County 46-0 to remain undefeated in Class 4A, Region 1.
LUKE HODGE, ONEONTA: Totaled 11 tackles, two fumble recoveries and a sack as the Redskins beat Hanceville 34-6 in Class 4A, Region 6.
CALVIN RIDDLESPUR, SOUTHSIDE-GADSDEN: Had two interceptions and nine tackles on defense in the Panthers’ 13-6 Class 6A, Region 7 win over Springville.
ADRIAN CALLOWAY, EUFAULA: Had eight tackles, including three for losses and one for a quarterback sack, in the Tigers’ 33-0 Class 6A, Region 2 win over Valley.
SPECIAL TEAMS

COLLIN ROGERS, PRATTVILLE: Booted a 50-yard field goal in the first half as the Lions downed Enterprise 17-16 in a key Class 7A, Region 2 win.
KAMARIAN PLOTT, PICKENS COUNTY: Fielded three punts returning two for touchdowns as the Tornadoes bear downed Brilliant 53-6 in Class 1A, Region 6. Plott finished with 112 punt return yards on the night.
BRAXTON HORNSBY, DOTHAN: Returned a punt 58 yards for a touchdown and teammate Ke’aviyon Durry raced 86 yards for a TD on a kickoff return as Dothan beat Carroll 29-15.
TAKARIS BOZEMAN, SIDNEY LANIER: Returned a punt 80 yards for a touchdown – his third kick return for a TD in the last two games – and the Poets defense posted a safety and limited Park Crossing to negative yards for the game as Sidney Lanier won 43-0.
KOBIE STRINGER, GW LONG: Returned a punt 62 yards for a touchdown and completed 5-of-7 passes for 86 yards and two touchdowns (41 and 19 yards) as the Rebels (5-1) beat Zion Chapel 49-0 in Class 2A, Region 2.
MAURICE JONES, AUSTIN: Returned a punt for a touchdowns and hauled in two pass receptions for TDs covering 37 and 31 yards in a 29-24 Class 7A, Region 5 setback versus Grissom.
BRIAN THOMAS, LEE-MONTGOMERY: Scooped up an onside kick by Carver-Montgomery and raced 51 yards for a touchdown. He also rushed for 105 yards on 20 carries as Lee downed the Wolverines 33-15 in Class 6A, Region 2.
ANTHONY ROGERS, PIKE ROAD: Returned a kickoff 85 yards for one touchdown and hauled in a pass from Iverson Hooks for a 75-yard TD as the Patriots (6-0) downed Charles Henderson 60-6.
