AHSAA Spotlight For Week 12
Carpenter Rushes For 374 Yards
In Colbert County’s 45-44 OT Win

      Colbert County senior running back Ryan Carpenter rushed 36 times for 374 yards Friday night in his best effort of the season to grab the AHSAA Prep Spotlight for Week 12, the second round of the 2013 football playoffs.
Coach Dale Jeffrey’s team needed every carry and every yard to post a 45-44 overtime Class 3A victory over Glencoe.
The Indians (11-1) took the lead in overtime on Carpenter’s 1-yard run and Sergio Mendoza’s extra point. It was Carpenter’s fourth touchdown of the night.
Glencoe junior quarterback Dylan Stone, who accounted for all six Yellow Jackets touchdowns, brought his team to within one point with a 10-yard TD pass in the overtime. The Indians held on for the win when Glencoe failed to convert its tying extra point.
Stone completed 12-of-20 passes for 190 yards and five touchdowns and rushed 15 times for 95 yards and one score in the fourth period.
Colbert County will host undefeated Saks (12-0) in the third round of the state playoffs this week as the playoffs move closer to the Super 6.
Carpenter’s effort edged out a tremendous performance by Saks quarterback Tremon Smith.
With the Wildcats trailing Lauderdale County 21-14 heading into the fourth quarter, Smith sparked an amazing comeback with two rushing touchdowns and one TD pass as Saks (12-0) advanced with a 36-21 win. Smith scored on runs of 15 and 3 yards, fired a 26-yard scoring toss to Devin Harris and also scored two 2-point conversions in the final period.

MILESTONE

Jermarcus Brown, Pickens County: Rushed for 259 yards on 23 carries and scored five touchdowns in a 38-22 Tornadoes win over Addison in Class 1A. His rushing TDs covered 52, 11, 29 and 47 yards to set a school single-season record with 44 rushing touchdowns. His fifth TD came on a 3-yard pass reception, a 59-yard TD on the first play of the third period that helped Pickens County (12-0) overcome a 15-14 deficit en route to the victory.

RUSHING

Marlon Bridges, Lanett: Rushed for 309 yards and six touchdowns in Lanett’s win over Fultondale. He has now rushed for 2,164 yards in 11 games this season.

Josh Thomas, Montgomery Academy: Ran for 219 yards and three touchdowns, threw a 22-yard TD pass and scored on a 70-yard punt return in a 54-44 Class 2A win at Ranburne. His TD runs covered 19, 61 and 79 yards.

Devin Scott, Straughn: The Tigers’ running back rushed for 261 yards on 27 carries, including 189 yards on 22 of Straughn’s 30 second-half snaps, with a pair of touchdowns (41 and 44 yards) in a 29-20 victory over previously undefeated Dale County in Class 3A.
Jamarius Henderson, Dale County: The junior running back earned 200 yards on 21 carries with two touchdowns (62 and 1 yard) in a 29-20 loss to Straughn. He finished the season with over 2,000 yards rushing as the 3A Warriors finished 11-1.

Ronnie Clark, Calera: Ran for 222 yards on 30 carries with two scores (6 and 3 yards) and added a 27-yard touchdown pass in the 35-24 loss to Dadeville.

Jordan Johnson, Vestavia Hills: Totaled 191 all-purpose yards with 109 yards rushing on 20 attempts. He had  a 10-yard score and added an 82-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in the 31-28 win over Bessemer City.

T.J. Pratt, Hubbertville: Rushed for 249 yards on 19 carries and scored on runs of 38 and 10 yards in a 50-14 win over Falkville in 1A.

John Johnson, Charles Henderson: Rushed for 229 yards on 13 carries with two touchdowns (two 57 yarders) and caught five passes for 96 yards and another score (60 yards) in the Trojans’ 35-0 Class 4A win over Childersburg. Charles Henderson (12-0) remained undefeated heading into this week’s quarterfinals.

Dallas Cockerham, Lamar County: Rushed for 225 yards on 40 carries and scored four touchdowns in a 40-34 Class 2A loss to Mobile Christian. Cockerham scored on runs of 8, 1, 4 and 12 yards.

Tyler Rogers, Mobile Christian: Rushed for 274 yards and six touchdowns on 17 carries as the Leopards beat Lamar County 40-34 in 2A.

Ito Smith, McGill-Toolen: Rushed for 201 yards and all three of his team’s touchdowns on 25 carries in the Yellow Jackets’ 24-20 Class 6A win at Wetumpka.

Trey Bolton, Cleburne County: Rushed for 205 yards and two TDs (6 and 2 yards) to lead the Tigers past Central-Florence 21-7 in Class 4A.
Dantley Coker, Southside-Gadsden: Rushed 38 times for 193 yards and one touchdown in the Panthers’ 28-21 win over Cullman as Southside (12-0) advanced to the third round in 5A. 

Trent Thrash, Fyffe: Carried 28 times for 182 yards and three touchdowns as the Red Devils downed host Walter Wellborn 35-21. Thrash scored on runs of 1, 2 and 24 yards with the 24-yarder clinching the win with 1:03 left. Teammate Austin Stiefel added 13 attempts for 154 rushing yards and two touchdowns (32 and 16 yards).

Lamarcus Adair, Pike County: Rushed for 218 yards on 28 carries and two touchdowns in a 32-18 Class 3A loss to Bayside Academy.

Terrell McDaniel, Oneonta: Had 16 carries for 186 yards and two touchdowns in Oneonta’s 56-7 Class 4A win over Jacksonville. He also returned a blocked punt 18 yards for a third score.

Terrance Sanders, Linden: Rushed for 153 yards on 25 carries and scored five touchdowns in a 42-16 Class 1A win over McKenzie. He scored his first touchdown on a 26-yard run. Trailing 16-12, Linden reeled off 27 unanswered points as Sanders scored on runs of 3, 8, 3 and 5 yards. Teammate Prentiss McCuiston also finished with 197 rushing yards on 32 carries.

Malik Miller, Madison Academy: Carried 22 times for 136 yards and four touchdowns (32, 2, 4 and 4 yards) in a 43-12 win over Hamilton.

Hayden Stephens, Tanner: Carried 22 times for 138 yards and two touchdowns, including a 78-yard score late in the fourth quarter to seal the victory, as the defending Class 2A state champion Rattlers rallied to beat North Sand Mountain 27-17.

Daniel Woodall, Falkville: Ran for 191 yards and touchdowns of 42 yards and one yard on 19 carries in a 50-14 Class 1A loss to Hubbertville.

Kieon Smith, T.R. Miller: Ran for three touchdowns and threw for another as the Tigers (12-0) posted a 41-6 Class 3A victory over Midfield.

PASSING

Kendrick Doss, Florence: The Ole Miss commitment was 10-of-18 passing for 257 yards and three touchdowns, including a game-winning 39-yard touchdown pass with 23 seconds left inregulation to beat Clay-Chalkville 37-30. He also rushed 15 times for 99 yards and a TD.

Marcus Key, Bessemer City: Accounted for 322 yards — completing 16-of-20 passes for 281 yards plus 41 yards rushing — and four touchdowns (1, 1 and 7 yards rushing, and a 42-yard pass) in a 31-28 Class 6A loss to Vestavia Hills.

Hayden Moore, Clay-Chalkville: Completed 20-of-36 passes for 325 yards and two scores (58 and 44 yards) and added a 1-yard touchdown run in the 37-30 loss to Florence.

Kyran Moore, McAdory: Accounted for 316 yards total offense, completing 6-of-7 passes for 197 yards and two touchdowns (25 and 77 yards) and running for 119 yards with a 59-yard touchdown in the Jackets’ 34-17 Class 5A win over Pinson Valley.

Demarcus Williams, Jackson: The sophomore, replacing injured starting QB Matthew Jordan in the first quarter, completed 11-of-23 passes for 176 yards and a TD and ran for 70 yards and another score on 21 carries in the Aggies’ 24-7 win over Briarwood Christian. Jackson (12-0) advanced to round three in Class 5A with the win.
Danny Johnson, J.O. Johnson: Completed 5-of-9 passes for 150 yards and three touchdowns – all to twin brother DeVon – and scored on a 12-yard run in a 58-14 Class 4A win over Haleyville. Devon Johnson’s TD receptions covered 71, 5 and 18 yards.

Ty Webber, Oxford: Was 10-of-20 passing for 183 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for a third in the Yellow Jackets’ 28-24 Class 6A playoff loss at Bob Jones.
Tyler Glenn, Cullman: Closed his prep career completing 13-of-25 passes for 216 yards and two touchdowns as the Bearcats fell to unbeaten Southside-Gadsden 28-21 in 5A.

PASS RECEIVING

Maison Goodwin, Cullman: Hauled in six catches for 132 yards, including an 18-yard TD reception, in the Bearcats’ 28-21 Class 5A loss to unbeaten Southside-Gadsden.

Tredarian Gamble, Oxford: Caught seven passes for 128 yards and two TDs in a 28-24 Class 6A loss to Bob Jones.
C.J. Savage, Piedmont: Caught two passes for 76 yards, including a 68-yard touchdown, in the Class 3A Bulldogs’ 20-19 playoff win over Deshler.

Dylan Tullis, Ranburne: The junior running back caught five passes for 98 yards and rushed for 88 yards on 21 carries in a 54-44 loss to Montgomery Academy in Class 2A.

DEFENSE

Cole Chiselko, Hoover: Made two interceptions as the Bucs picked off four Shades Valley passes in a 33-14 Class 6A playoff win over the Mounties. P.J. Hall and Christopher Davidson came up with the other picks.
Will Brown, Fyffe: With the Red Devils clinging to a 28-21 lead and Walter Wellborn deep in Fyffe territory, Brown intercepted a pass at his own goal line and returned it 60 yards with 2:21 to play. The play set up Fyffe’s final touchdown of the night about a minute later as the Red Devils went on to win 35-21.
John Wesley Williamson, Spanish Fort: Collected two of his team’s four sacks as the defending Class 5A state champion Toros (12-0) held the Sylacauga offense to just 81 total yards in a 44-7 victory.

Draequon Murphy, Carver-Montgomery: Intercepted two passes as the Wolverines beat Fairhope 33-6 in Class 6A.
Paxton Schrimsher, Athens: Had two interceptions, including a 65-yard return for a TD, in a 24-0 Class 5A win over Pleasant Grove.
Neonta Alexander, Piedmont: Picked off a pass late in the game to help the Bulldogs secure a 20-19 victory at Deshler in 3A.

Cameron Turner, Munford: Returned a Guntersville fumble for a touchdown in Munford’s 26-16 Class 4A win.
Avery Reid, Oneonta: Had an interception return for a touchdown, four tackles and three rushing touchdowns on offense as the Redskins advanced in 4A with a 56-7 win over Jacksonville.

SPECIAL TEAMS

Cade Stinnett, Enterprise: Connected on two field goals, including a 50-yarder with two seconds left in regulation to force overtime, in a 41-34 double-overtime Class 6A loss to Smiths Station. Stinnett was also 4-of-4 on extra points.
Sage Ledbetter, Auburn: Kicked a 37-yard field goal with 2:17 left as the Tigers beat Foley 23-20 in 6A.

Marlon Humphrey, Hoover: After the Bucs blocked a Shades Valley punt resulting in a safety, Humphrey caught the ensuing free kick at his own 18 and returned it 82 yards for a touchdown as Hoover (12-0) beat Shades Valley 33-14 to advance in 6A.
Walter Little, St. Paul’s: Returned a fumble 91 yards for a touchdown for the game’s first score in the Saints’ 20-14 OT win at Benjamin Russell.

Darnell Jackson, Piedmont: Returned the second half kickoff 79 yards for a touchdown in the Bulldogs’ 20-19 Class 3A win at Deshler.
Taylor Wilson, Addison: Wilson had 77 return yards, kicked two extra points and threw a 41-yard pass on a fake punt in the Bulldogs’ 38-22 Class 1A loss to unbeaten Pickens County. He also rushed for 87 yards in the setback.
Tavon Lawson, Munford: Returned a punt 75 yards for a TD in the first half to give Munford a 19-0 halftime lead en route to a 26-16 win over Guntersville in Class 4A.
