Airstrike Sets Off New Violence at the Israel-Gaza Border

iStock/Thinkstock(JERUSALEM) — Violence has broken out again along the Israel-Gaza border. A rocket that evaded Israel’s Iron Dome anti-missile defense system smashed into a city street, provoking Israeli tank fire and later a response from the air.

The Israeli Air Force has carried out a number of airstrikes in Gaza, both in the North and the South. No one has been injured, according to Palestinian reports.

The Israeli reprisal strikes come just hours after the rocket slammed into an empty street in the southern city of Sderot, an attack claimed not by Hamas but by a terror group that identifies with the Islamic State in Gaza. No one was hurt in the rocket strike.

Sirens had already warned more than 20,000 residents to take cover.
