If some Alabama lawmakers have their way, higher gasoline prices may be on the horizon.
Republican Majority Leader of the Alabama House of Representatives, Nathaniel Ledbetter, stated earlier this week that the Alabama Legislature would be considering a six-to-ten cent per gallon gas tax increase in the next legislative session. Currently, Alabama has one of the lowest gas taxes in the nation, which means that prices are significantly lower than they are in surrounding states.
Ledbetter stated there’s a good chance that the new gas tax increase will pass – adding that the proceeds will be used to pay for infrastructure improvements.
