Alabama Highway 35 Now Reopened, Martha’s Falls Area of Little River Canyon Temporarly Closed

The National Park Service requests people to drive with their headlights on, using caution and driving slowly on Alabama Highway 35 as the smoke is still crossing the road, and fire vehicles are still patrolling the area. Fire crews successfully managed the fire line along highway 35. Smoke may continue creating a visibility issue for the duration of the fire.

The road was closed from the Little River Falls (Alabama Highway 176) area to Blanche (Alabama Highway 273) for fire crews to work the area and heavy smoke.

The park has closed the Martha’s Falls area. Little River Canyon National Preserve and multiple teams from other agencies are currently combating a wildfire that has consumed over 300 acres in the Martha’s Falls and County Road 861 area south of Alabama Highway 35. Air tanker drops, helicopter drops and Alabama Forestry Commission bulldozers assisted the fire teams.
