The Alabama House of Representatives has passed the bill known as Carly’s Law by a vote of 97 to nothing.
House members worked well into the night Wednesday with SB174 passing shortly after 2:00am Thursday; the Senate already approved that bill by a 34 to nothing vote on March 11th, with final passage expected today (Thursday).
The bill would allow a one million dollar study at the University of Alabama at Birmingham that would examine the effectiveness of marijuana-derived oil used to treat seizure disorders, such as epilepsy.
That bill was named for three year old Carly Chandler of Birmingham, who suffers from a severe neurological disorder.
Some controversy has arisen regarding that matter, because although the oil does not get the user “high” – it is still illegal in Alabama.
