Alabama Launches Electronic Voter Registration System

VoterRegistrationAlabama has launched an online voter registration system ahead of the state’s March 1 primary.

Secretary of State John Merrill said in a statement Monday that the electronic application is meant to improve the accuracy of voter rolls and offer security and convenience to voters.

Applicants must have a valid Alabama driver’s license or identification card, be 18 or older by election day, be legally eligible to vote and must live in Alabama.

After online applications are filled out, Merrill says an electronic form is sent to the board of registrars in the applicant’s home county.

The deadline to register online for the primary election is Feb. 15.

More information about the online registration system can be found on the secretary of state’s website, www.alabamavotes.gov
