Alabama’s 200th Anniversary to be Celebrated with New USPS Forever Stamp

Alabama’s 200th birthday is being celebrated with a new U.S. Postal Service Forever stamp, featuring art based on a photo taken at sunset at Cheaha State Park.

Alabamian Joe Miller took the photo from the park’s Pulpit Rock Trail – with Pulpit Rock in the foreground overlooking Talladega National Forest. The stamp also includes the name of the state and the year of statehood.  That stamp will be issued in Huntsville – site of Alabama’s First Constitutional Convention – on February 23rd at Constitution Hall Park.  The Alabama stamp is just one of several new releases coming from the US Postal Service in 2019.  Other stamps will honor poet Walt Whitman; entertainers Gregory Hines and Marvin Gaye; and the 50th anniversary of Woodstock – just to name a few.

USPS Stamp Services Executive Director Mary-Anne Penner stated that these 2019 releases continue the tradition first started in 1847.  “The miniature works of art illustrated in the 2019 stamp program offer something for everyone’s interest about American history and culture,” Penner said. “From legendary poet Walt Whitman to the entertainment genius of Gregory Hines to the majestic beauty of our Wild and Scenic Rivers, this program is diverse and wide ranging and tells America’s story on stamps.”
