Alabama’s Running Total of Confirmed COVID-19 Cases Reaches 97,725 as of Sunday

The Alabama Department of Public Health numbers released Sunday (August 9th), showed an increase of 1,122 cases over the day before, bringing the state’s running total to 97,725 – with the death toll from COVID-19 climbing to a total of 1,707 – up 13 from Saturday..

Cherokee County has so far seen a total of 273 confirmed cases with another 29 being listed as “probable” with seven deaths resulting from the illness; one other listed as “probable”.

Of those tested locally for COVID-19 over the past 14 days, 69 results came back as positive – the number of persons tested is currently unavailable.  

Numbers in neighboring counties are as follows:

Calhoun – 1,784 confirmed cases with 14 deaths;

Cleburne – 127 confirmed cases with 1 death;

DeKalb – 1,819 confirmed cases with 13 deaths;

Etowah – 2,121 confirmed cases with 31 deaths.

Alabama has tested 758,852 people for coronavirus – 162,282 in the last two weeks; and, of those recent tests, 19,164 – or a little under 12% – were positive.  

The total number of people who at one point had to be hospitalized, stands at 11,537.

The number of presumed recoveries statewide currently stands at 37,923.
