ALDOT Says Westbound Lane Of Alabama 68 Between Sand Rock & Leesburg Remains Closed Due To Safety Concerns

aldot3The Alabama Department of Transportation advises motorists that continued closure of the westbound lane of Alabama 68 on the mountainside in the Leesburg and Sand Rock area will be necessary while repairs are made.

A shoulder slide developed during heavy rainfall last week and further rainfall Monday. While the roadway remains intact, the slide collapsed part of the shoulder and guardrail, creating a safety concern.

A timetable for repairs has not been established.

The eastbound lane remains open. The detour for westbound traffic is U.S. 411 South to U.S. 431 North to Interstate 59 North to Alabama 68 at Exit 205.
